3rd Place OldNo7 116.5 pts

4th Place Dugongs 114.5 pts

6th Place Spitoons 101.75 pts

7th Place FlyingElvis 97.5 pts

The BeaudoinBrothers started the season well with a win in a very low scoring week.  The average winning score was 161.5 pts last year and the BeaudoinBrothers won with only 129.5 pts and only scoring 4 TDs.  Normally when the defense is the highest scorer, this team is in trouble.  But the BeaudoinBrothers won with the Bills D leading the way with 21 pts.  They completely shut down the Texans, allowing only 7 pts, 120 yds, 5 sacks, and 5 turnovers .  Stover missed 3 FGs in 2004, 5 in 2003, 4 in 2002, 5 in 2001, and 4 in 2000.  He already missed 3 in one game this year, so he will be another kicker in the long list of kickers who have their career's worst year when drafted by the BeaudoinBrothers (Vanderjagt, Wilkins, Longwell, etc.).  Except for the kicker, year 2005 looks good so far for the BeaudoinBrothers.  It's only one week, but in the last 6 years, week #1 has been very indicative for a team's season outlook.  Out of the last 6 champion teams (1999-2004), 4 finished 1st in week #1 and 2 finished 2nd.  However, the spread between the BeaudoinBrothers and last place was only 32 pts this year so week #1 was by no means a dominating performance by the BBs and may not be as indicative as in the past.

UncleJack came in as an underdog and surprised with a 2nd place in week #1.  Despite playing the Ravens D, P Manning still put up 22 pts on the board.  Manning will be a monster again this year.  R McMichael scored 14 pts at the TE position.  UJ seems loaded with good TEs because even both UJ's backup TEs (Putzier, Troupe) scored in the double digits.   Corey Dillon struggled to gain yards against the Raiders D, but he scored 2 TDs nonetheless for 17 pts.  UncleJack could have easily finished 1st this week because the team had the highest maximum score of all teams with 181.25 pts.  The coach can be blamed with an efficiency of only 66.8% (121 / 181.25).  This ranked 6th out of 7 teams for coaching efficiency.  UJ has the potential for a very good season, but needs the coach to make good decisions.  The coach benched Randy Moss (19 pts), Darren Sharper (24 pts), the Colts D (19.5 pts), and Julian Peterson (15.75 pts).  Awful!

OldNo7 is expected to have the best year in franchise history and week #1 did nothing to change that expectation with a solid 3rd place.  This is the team's best start since 2001.  The team had finished next to last in week #1 of the last 3 years.  Rookie Cadillac Williams led the team with 20 pts.  Old spent a high draft pick on him, and right now Cadillac looks primed to dominate all rookies this season.  Other than Cadillac, nobody dominated on Old's team.  Several players carried their weight with a low double-digit score (Priest, Portis, D Jax, Bears D, Spikes, and Farrior).  OldNo7 moved to 2nd favorites this season in front of WaxOnWaxOff as judged by the LasVegas bookmakers

The Dugongs finished 4th which is average, but the bad news is the loss of the 16th overall pick Javon Walker who is out for the year .  This will hurt the Dugongs tremendously.  I Bruce and Plaxico are the backups and both did well in week #1 with 14 pts, but they are not nearly as good and consistent as J Walker.  A bright spot in week #1 was the performance of K Collins who led all QBs in the league with 23 pts despite playing in New England.  It would not be shocking to see him finish in the top 4 at the position.  Rookie LB Derrick Johnson was everywhere on the field with 8 tackles, 1 assist, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble.  The Dugongs could have done better if the RBs, WRs, and TE had done better.  All five only scored a disappointing 32 pts together, with nobody reaching double digits.  These big names have to improve for the Dugongs to be competitive: E James, J Lewis, J Horn, Tony Gonzo.

WaxOnWaxOff started the year with a very disappointing 5th place.  The team's starting RBs Rudi Johnson and D McAllister did well with 16 and 15 pts.  However the rest of the team underperformed.  J Delhomme only scored 6 pts against an emotional Saints team.  Hines Ward could be the biggest WR bust in the league for WRs drafted in the top 15 WRs.  He only scored 3 pts.  The Steelers simply do not throw the ball.  L Coles scored 9 pts which is adequate, but as usual he got a decent number of receptions (6) but only about 10 yds per catch and no TD.  He will not lift Wax to victory with these numbers.  K Bulluck and R Lewis, Wax's 2 high-priced LBs did ok with 8 and 10 pts, but they did not make big plays (no INT, sack, FF).

The Spitoons failed to beat WaxOnWaxOff on MNF and came up short by 2.75 pts.  T.O. had a decent game but he did not score a TD and his performance was not enough to lift the Spitoons to the 5th place.  Steve Smith came back from his 2004 injury in a convincing manner with 22 pts.  The Spitoons defense was very solid with 48.25 pts from Strahan (1.5 sack), D Brooks (1 INT, 1 PD), Zach Thomas (14 tackles+assists), and Trufant (1 sack, 1 PD, 1 forced fumble).  The Spitoons completely outscored all other teams on defense with Wax coming in 2nd with 35.5 pts.  The Spitoons could have had a great week, but D Culpepper completely sank the team with a horrible -7 pts!    If Culpepper had scored a very average 13 pts by his standards, the Spitoons would have finished 2nd this week.  Moss's departure may hurt more than expected in 2005.  Note that the Spitoons ranked last in coaching efficiency this week.  That is not a surprise however.  Every year the GM does a good job drafting quality players, and the coach ruins it during the season.

FlyingElvis entered the season as the underdog and finished last in week #1.  The team could have easily finished with an average week (like 3rd-5th place) but the coach made a rookie mistake of starting injured DB Gary Baxter.  Had the coach started Witherspoon (12 pts) as the defensive flex player instead, FE would have beat Wax and Spi, and would have been only 5 pts behind the Dugongs and 7 pts behind Old.  FE's four defensive players only scored 15.5 pts together, compared to 48.25 for Spi and 35.5 pts for Wax - we don't need to look further for why FE finished last.  On offense FE did better than many other teams.  Leftwich justified his high draft pick status with 20 pts.  McGahee did not score a TD but gained over 100 yds rushing.  M Harrison was his own self with 16 pts against a tough Ravens D.  FE absolutely need the defense to step up to be competive.  The offense will be able to hold its ground.  Note than in 5 of the last 7 years, the team which finished last in week #1 also finished last for the season.  This is a big warning sign for FlyingElvis already
