2003 Week #14
1st Place BeaudoinBrothers 154.5 pts
2nd Place Decepticons 109.5 pts
4th Place WaxOnWaxOff 96.5 pts
The BeaudoinBrothers comeback season is upon us. The BeaudoinBrothers beat the league's all time-record for the best week ever (prior record was 150.5 pts by the BeaudoinBrothers in week #8 1999) and the league's record for the best individual performance (Portis 55 pts, prior record was 53 pts by Jimmy Smith from the Guns'n Psychos in 2000 week #1). Portis's huge performance overshadowed the Patriots's shutout game, in which they held the Dolphins to less than 135 yards, they scored a TD, a safety, forced 3 turnovers and recorded 5 sacks! This was the best performance by a defense since the Titans (BeaudoinBrothers) in week #17 of 2000. The Patriots took over as the best defense in the league in front of the Ravens and Bucs (UJ). Also, Moss scored 30 pts and now leads all WRs in front of Holt (Dec). In 2000, the BeaudoinBrothers made a late-season comeback to beat the Dugongs and steal the league's title in week #17. In 2001, the BeaudoinBrothers were down by 9 pts against Wax with 5 weeks left and came back but fell short by 2 pts. In 2002, the BeaudoinBrothers were down by 11.5 pts against UncleJack with 3 weeks left and came back but fell short by 2.5 pts (three straight 1st places were not enough in week 15, 16, and 17). This year, the BeaudoinBrothers were 12.5 pts behind Decepticons with 5 weeks left and are now 6.5 pts behind. It is still highly unlikely that the BeaudoinBrothers can pull it off, but at least they have a great shot at finishing in the top 2 of the league for the 7th straight year. The red-hot BeaudoinBrothers are now tied with Wax in 2nd place (and have the tie-breaker) and lead Old by 1 pt. In 2000-2002, the BeaudoinBrothers' rank in weeks 15-17 was: 5th, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st.
The Decepticons bounced back from a bad week in week #13 with another 2nd place. By beating Wax by 2 ranks, the Decepticons increased their first place lead from 4.5 pts to 6.5 pts. The team is now almost assured of winning the league. They only need to finish 3rd (which is barely above average) for three straight weeks to do it. Even if they finish 4th for three straight weeks, most likely they would win because another team would have to finish 1st or 2nd in all those weeks. Culpepper torched the Seahawks D with 33 pts. It was Culpepper's first great peformance since week #10. He is back to 1st among all QBs in the league. Terrell Owens had a rare good peformance with 2 short TDs. The coach made the gutsy move of starting the Packers D against the Bears instead of the regular starters the Titans and it paid off. The Packers scored 20.5 pts and the Titans scored zero. If Decepticons had started the Titans, they would have finished in 5th place. This made a huge difference.
OldNo7 scored 99.5 pts and finished third. McNabb was back in the starting lineup after being benched for several weeks. He rewarded the coach with 25 pts. Holmes and Green scored 3 TDs in total, but their yardage total was not so impressive. Green got passed in the RB standings by Portis and Tomlinson and he is now 4th. Holmes is still #1, but he leads Portis by only 1.0 pt now. OldNo7 could have beat Decepticons with a better peformance by WRs. Chad Johnson and Eric Moulds only scored 2 pts each. This hurt the team pretty bad. Otherwise the team had a good week. The Eagles D dominated the Cowboys with 16 pts. Boldin scored another TD and got 18 pts. He will finish the season without a doubt as the best rookie in the league. Not bad for a guy who was drafted 78th in total (10th rookie selected).
WaxOnWaxOff did not have a bad week with 96.5 pts, but unfortunately got beat by all the team's major opponents (Dec, BeaudoinBros, Old). Hasselbeck had a horrible game with only 1 pt against the normally weak Vikings D. McAllister had a sub-par game with 7 pts. The injury to Shockey continues to hurt the team pretty bad. He still has not come back on the field despite being listed as questionable for 2 straight weeks. On the positive side, Tomlinson is finishing the season strong. He scored 2 TDs and gained 236 yards total. The Steelers D got a rare good peformance with 19 pts. The rookie position continues to be a problem for Wax late in the season. Calico was held without a reception for the third straight game.
UncleJack's coach woke up and realized that Warrick Dunn is injured for the rest of the year. Last week, Dunn was put in the starting lineup. The writer of this column did not want to mention anything, to avoid impacting the results of the league. This week it would not have made much of a difference because Zereoue only scored 2 pts. Dunn's injury is very unfortunate because UJ had just made this important trade to upgrade the RB position. Dunn had been playing well. In week #14, Boston and Ward disappointed with 7 pts each. Manning also scored only 7 pts. They are the main reason why UJ came close to beating Old and Wax but short. Jamal Lewis had his first big game since week #8. He is now the 5th best RB in the league. The Ravens scored 17 pts in replacement for the normally starters TB Bucs. The Ravens are silently having a great season. They are the 2nd best defense in the league (!) in front of the disappointing Bucs. Rookie LJ Smith scored his first TD of the season, but that was his only catch of the game. Toefield was benched but he also scored his first TD and beat Smith 10 pts to 6 pts. If UJ had started Toefield, they would have beat Wax in 4th place.
The Spitoons had a decent week with 87.5 pts but that was not enough to finish 5th. This was the highest score by a last place team this season. The team had a chance to beat UJ, Wax, and Old on Monday Night Football, but they needed more than the 10 pts scored by Bulger and the 12 pts scored by Faulk. E James scored 19 pts. He is having a much better season than most expected. He has an average of 13.7 pts per week and he is the 7th best RB in the league. Joe Horn and Jimmy Smith each scored double-digits. Leftwich scored 13 pts. He has definitely been a good acquisition by the Spitoons.
