2003 Week #13

1st Place BeaudoinBrothers 139 pts

2nd Place Spitoons 120.5 pts

3rd Place WaxOnWaxOff 116.5 pts

4th Place OldNo7 92.5 pts

5th Place UncleJack 75.5 pts

6th Place Decepticons 68.5 pts

As soon as we thought the BeaudoinBrothers dead, they answered back with the league's second highest score of the season with 139 pts.  The team remains in 4th place overall, but they are now only one point behind OldNo7 and three points behind Wax.  With Decepticons's last place this week, the BeaudoinBrothers' chances of finishing first went from nil to slim.  The Bros were 12.5 pts back and are now 7.5 pts back with four weeks to go.  Everybody in the core of the BeaudoinBrothers lineup contributed.  Brooks scored 3 TDs, Portis 2 TDs, S Alex 1 TD, Moss 1 TD and Mason 1 TD.  Moss and Mason caught a combined 21 passes.  The other good news is that McNair did play on MNF although the BeaudoinBrothers did not start him.  McNair will be key for the end of the season.  However, the bad news this week for the BeaudoinBrothers is that rookie Charles Rogers will miss the rest of the season.  When he got injured on October 8th, he was supposed to be out 4-8 weeks, but the injury is taking longer to heal than expected.  Josh Brown has been doing fine in his absence though.

The Spitoons can play when the coach makes the right calls.  Last week the coach did not submit the team's starters and they finished last.  This week the coach submitted his lineup and the players answered with their best performance of the year by far with 120.5 pts.  Jimmy Smith and Byron Leftwich had fun on Sunday Night Football against the underachieving Bucs.  They scored 45 pts together to pull away from Old and Wax.  This week's performance assured the team they will not beat the league's record for the worst season ever.

WaxOnWaxOff had a great week with 116.5 pts, but it was only good enough for 3rd place.  Tyrone Calico disappointed on MNF by not catching a single pass.  Wax could have beat Spitoons with 5 pts by Calico, which was his season average.  Hasselbeck threw for 3 TDs and scored 24 pts.  Harrison proved that he his back to health by scoring 18 pts.  The Seahawks D held the Browns in check all game long and scored 17 pts.  The return of Shockey to the lineup next week will help Wax tremendously down the stretch.  Wax cut Decepticons's lead from 7.5 pts to 4.5 pts.  The team still has a chance of finishing first but cannot afford sub-par weeks.

OldNo7 scored 92.5 pts but this was not enough in such a high-scoring week.  Ahman Green had a bad game on Thanksgiving with only 5 pts.  Rookie Boldin only scored 5 pts.  Priest Holmes continued to rampage opposing defenses and he scored 25 pts.  Chad Johnson told the media that he is the best WR in the league and he followed up with a TD.  He is a good WR, but he is still trailing Holt, Moss, and Harrison in the WR rankings.  OldNo7 benefited from Decepticons's bad week to move to 6.5 pts back.  This will be difficult to overcome, but it is doable.

UncleJack's coach did a terrible job in week 13 and the team self-destructed.  The coach benched Hines Ward and started Rod Smith instead.  Ward caught one TD and 13 passes (!) while Rod Smith only caught one pass.  This was a 24-pt swing.  UJ could have beat Old if they had started Ward.  UJ fell to 8 pts behind the BeaudoinBrothers in 4th place and it will be difficult for the team not move out of 5th place for the rest of the season.  On the positive side, Manning had another great week with 4 TDs against the tough Patriots' defense.  Manning leads all QBs with a 18.7 pt per week average.

The Decepticons proved that everybody is human by finishing in last place for the first time of the season.  This will make the rest of the season more exciting.  The team was running away with the title, but now three other teams have an outside shot.  The Decepticons still lead Wax by 4.5 pts, which is a good lead.  However, if the team has another bad week like this, everything will be up for grabs.  Culpepper has caught the turnover bug that affected him all of last year.  In his last three games, Culpepper has 3 TDs, 5 INTs, and 3 fumbles.  This will make every coach go nuts.  Terrell Owens has been a major disappointment this year.  He only scored 4 pts this week and he his the 10th best WR in the league.  Andre Johnson only caught one pass, Morten Andersen did not kick a FG, the Titans D was not good on MNF, and S Davis / M Bennett did not score a TD.  Nothing was going well this week for the Decepticons.  We can expect the team to bounce back in week 14 though because they are still the team to beat.
