Week #10

The GloriousBastards crushed the competition in week #10 by coming within a hair short of 200 pts (199.75 pts) and beating Beaud by a whopping 45.25 pts.  Too bad they only cut Beaud’s lead by one rank-point despite this massive outperformance.  This week’s result was pretty much already known after TNF when J Chase scored 3 TDs, two of them long ones (67 and 70 yds) with huge stats to boot 11-264 for a total of 45 pts.  Even RB Chase Brown added a TD of his own in the same game and nearly 100 yds from scrimmage.  The rest was a formality on Sunday but Bas kept piling on points on the board with 2 TDs for Nix despite playing a difficult road game in KC, 2 TDs by Purdy no turnover and over 350 passing yards, 2 TDs by Bijan and more than 100 yds rushing and even G Pickens woke up with 16.75 pts which was his best game of the season.

The BeaudoinBrothers finished second which is normally a good result, but they beat Wax by 2 rank-points and lost to Bas by one rank-point so it felt almost like a neutral week or perhaps a mildly positive one.  The Bros should have started Hubbard (16 pts) instead of D Montgomery (9.5 pts) and Ridley (23 pts) instead of a banged up Ty Hill (9.25 pts) but it is quite rare that two such significant coaching mistakes have no impact on the rankings; it was the case this week with Beaud finishing on an island all alone, almost 20 pts ahead of Adm and more than 45 pts behind Bas.  The Bills defense had the largest excess over weekly projection with 17.5 pts thanks to a pick-six and 4 sacks.  Hurts had the highest score of the Beaud squad with 26 pts but he had 2 turnovers plus he was taken out of the game in the early 4th quarter when the game was out of hand, which capped his output.  He was not the only one with miscues as J Ferguson fumbled once and kicker Moody missed 3 FGs.

The Admirals returned to the blue for the first time since week #2 with third place, playing trouble-makers for Wax by edging them by a slim 3.75 pts.  K Murray had a strong game with 26.5 pts against the highly disappointing Jets defense even after recently signing holdout H Reddick – they still suck.  Gibbs, R White, and AJ Brown all scored double digits and Mike Williams only caught one pass but it was a long TD so he almost reached 10 pts as well.  The best of the lot was TD LaPorta with 15.25 pts but the bad news is that he got injured which will hurt Adm if LaPorta misses any time considering that backups Knox and Henry are both not worthy of starting (TE21 and TE14).  On defense Adm also had 3/4 starters with close to 10 pts with D Campbell, A Winfield, and Byard all scoring between 9.5 pts and 12.5 pts.

WaxOnWaxOff had their lowest score of the season with 131.5 pts but because week #10 also happened to be the lowest scoring week of the season for the entire PQBFL, Wax escaped with 4th place to limit the damage.  Injuries can be blamed to some extent but there were many other problems for Wax this week, for example the Vikings offense was going nowhere so neither Hockenson or Ju Jefferson scored a TD.  Their combined 18.75 pts was well short of their combined projection of 25.5 pts.  Also with Mayfield playing without his top 2 WRs against a tough SF defense, Wax benched him and started Stafford instead.  Stafford fell flat on his face with only 6.75 pts, even less than Mayfield who scored 7.5 pts on the bench.  Because of Stafford’s bad game, not only Wax could not beat Beaud on MNF (second was still within reach before Monday), but also fell behind Adm.  Achane was also responsible for Wax finishing behind Adm with only 4.25 pts in that same game.  And what to say of Carson Beck?  He finished with a negative score in another surprising Georgia loss.  The best score of the week for Wax was 16.5 pts by both unlikely heroes: B Baker and C Sutton.

From week #2 to week #9, ProfMJ was very erratic by finishing 4 times in the top three and 4 times in the bottom two, and no week with a finish between 4th to 7th.  That changed this week with an average 5th place.  The team is falling apart with Prescott now out for the year to injury which will clearly affect CD Lamb - he had an awful 21 receiving yards now playing with an inept QB.  At least at QB Herbert was able to put a decent effort with 18.75 pts which is more than what Prescott was averaging but Prof is now down to only one active QB (Ju Fields is benched) so Prof will lose the ability to play matchups.  At RB, James Cook scored another TD but Swift and the rest of the Bears was nauseating with only 5.25 pts against the not-so-mighty Patriots.  Prof was playing with an incomplete lineup because 4/8 defensive players were on bye and CJ Mosley was injured, leaving only three active defenders who were decent with a total of 28 pts but clearly Prof might have had a chance to beat Adm and Wax with an extra LB this week.

The Decepticons finished 6th and dropped to 22 rank-points behind first place so the season is officially a wash.  The Cons GM kind of suspected this very early in the season when they attempted to trade Caleb Williams when he still had some value, but he crapped the bed again this week with only 5.25 pts and it’s clear his value in 2025 will fall off a cliff once he is elevated to the QB position instead of the rookie position.  If he was a QB this year, he would rank QB19, right in front of Daniel Freakin Jones (FE) which might not even be worthy of saving, making his offseason value potentially close to zero.  With Jordan Love on bye, Dec had to start Tua Tago who simply does not seem right even after coming back from his concussion.  This week he only scored 6.75 pts including 2 turnovers – he’s a shell of what he was in 2023.  There were other problems with Dec’s starters, most notably Breece Hall who sucked again with 6.75 pts (RB24 in the PQBFL) and D Smith only scoring 2.5 pts despite the Eagles putting 34 pts on the board against Dallas. Dec’s best score of the week was on defense with TJ Edwards picking off one pass from Maye (Wax) in addition to 7 tackles 6 assists.

OldNo7’s season is quickly unraveling and even the return to health of CMC did not change matters this week with 7th place.  Old fell to 10 rank-points behind Bas in third place so this is now officially a 3-team race for the PQBFL crown and Old is very unlikely to repeat.  CMC did not score and was limited to 8.75 pts.  It was better than regular starter Kyren Williams who was benched with 3.75 pts, but it was not this coaching call that mattered this week, it was rather the coach sleeping at the wheel before TNF and not starting Burrow instead of Cousins.  Burrow exploded for 37.75 pts on the bench while Cousins was awful with 4 pts.  This call alone was the difference between 3rd place and 7th place so Wax was the main beneficiary to avoid losing an extra rank-point against Bas and Beaud. Similar to Dec, Old’s best score of the week was on defense with Quincy Williams scoring 17 pts and even co-LB EJ Speed had a good game with 12.5 pts.  However Old was playing without a healthy rookie because Bowers was on bye and J Brooks was not activated from IR yet so he’s still waiting to play his first snap of the season.  It was also untimely that Bills rookie Keon Coleman missed his only game of the season to injury in the exact week that he was needed when Bowers was on bye.

After a decent 2-week stretch in weeks #8-9 (13 rank-points), FE fell back in the red with 8th place and lost ground to both Prof and Dec in FE’s quest for 5th place in the standings.  FE is now as close to 8th place in front of Adm (5 rank-points) as 5th place behind Prof (and 4 rank-points behind Dec in 6th).  RB Dobbins has been having a decent season (RB12 in the league) but this week marked the return of Gus Edwards (Adm) after missing 4 games to injury and it significantly impacted Dobbins who had to share the rock (15 carries for Dobbins and 10 carries for Edwards).  It is Edwards who had more rushing yards and neither of them scored a TD despite playing the weak Titans.  With Josh Jacobs on bye, FE gave a rare start to Ekeler and it worked out well with 2 TDs for 14.25 pts so Jacobs was not missed.  In addition, like many other teams as noted above, FE had their best score of the week on defense and an incomplete lineup.  DB Branch played a full game this week – he was not ejected, and he returned to his normal level of production with 15 pts.  FE did not have a kicker after having punted for the 2024 season and traded their backup kicker away to Beaud a few weeks ago in return for a draft pick swap.  FE finished 17.75 pts behind Old this week and Matt Gay who was traded away scored 6 pts on the bench for Beaud so the trade had no impact on the rankings this week.

After a strong week #9 the Ballers returned to last place with a lowly 85.5 pts.  It is amazing that Ball could have such a low score despite Lamar Jackson scoring 38.25 pts – he almost scored as many points as all other 13 starters combined (47.25 pts – an average of 3.6 pts per starter, wow).  Only one player could exceed 10 pts other than L-Jax with Okereke scoring 11 pts, the rest was an amazing festival of suckness such as 0.5 pt from Javonte Williams who has apparently lost the starting RB job in Denver to none other than fumbling rookie Audric Estime. K Walker was on bye so it did not help, and Singletary started and was forgettable with 3.75 pts.  Receivers G Wilson, Zay Flowers, and Ertz combined for 18 pts, leaving star Kittle on the bench with 11.75 pts who beat all three.  Kicker McPherson did not attempt any FG and the Bengals defense was porous with only 0.5 pt.  Rookie J Wright was the final straw on this display of ineptitude on offense with 0.25 pt.  The defensive starters other than Okereke were equally useless with a combined score of 6 pts from Chris Jones, Sauce, and Judon.
