Week #7
WaxOnWaxOff are the first team of the season to win a second time
and are also the only team to have avoided the red so they are now
unsurprisingly in sole possession of first place in the
standings. Almost all teams had to deal with a roster hole of
some sort this week and Wax was not exception. TJ Hockenson
had a chance to play and was questionable until game time but in the
end he stayed in street clothes so Wax had no active TE because Kmet
was on bye and Musgrave remains injured. Mayfield helped
compensate on MNF with 30 pts on MNF despite having 2 INT so he
continued his torrid pace – it was his 4th consecutive game of 26.5
pts or more. However he is about to be tested in serious
fashion now that both Godwin (Old) and M Evans (Bas) are injured
which will significantly affect Wax negatively without earning
injury points. Rookie D Maye scored a healthy number of points
when the Jaguars defense was playing loose due to having a big lead
which allowed Maye to end the game with 23 pts. However Maye
does not seem to be the kind of QB who can lead the Pats to victory,
but he can for Wax.
The Decepticons finished in the top 2 for the third straight week
which was a greatly satisfying result considering that Caleb was on
bye and that Dec does not have any other starter caliber
rookie. Adonai Mitchell started and only scored 3.5 pts.
Dec would have probably won again if Caleb was not on bye but at
least that’s now in the rearview mirror and Dec is now almost
entirely healthy except for franchise player J Taylor who missed his
third game but because Mixon is now healthy himself, perhaps it does
not even matter? Mixon scored 20.25 pts which was even better
than Br Hall who scored 17.75 pts. The other spot where Dec is
getting healthier is QB with Tua Tago seemingly soon to returning,
perhaps as early as next week. Dec will probably not start him
at first because J Love is doing more than fine, scoring 19.25 pts
this week and ranking QB3 in the PQBFL. However where Tago’s
return might genuinely help Dec is at WR because Waddle has been
useless without his QB. Dec has struggled at times finding a
second second WR to start behind D London. This week London
scored 14 pts but for WR2 Dec started J Reed who is being outplayed
by Doubs (Adm) recently; Reed only scored 2.5 pts this week.
The BeaudoinBrothers could have won this week but like other teams
had some roster problems, the main one being rookie Daniels getting
injured on his very first offensive snap so that clipped the Bros’
wings who had to settle for third place. The Bros were in
danger of finishing in the bottom half of the standings but D Henry
came to the rescue (again) with 21 pts against the Bucs, on top of
another 21 pts from teammate Roquan Smith at LB for a total of 42
pts between them on the final day. The only player to outscore
them was Hurts with 23.5 pts while some other offensive starters had
issues such as Ty Hill still doing next to nothing (1.5 pt this
week) and TE Ferguson was on bye while starter Kincaid only scored 4
pts. In that game it’s rather the Bills defense which helped
the Bros by limiting the Titans to only 10 pts and less than 300
yards of offense.
OldNo7 finished in the middle 3 for the third straight week with 4th
place this week and injuries are starting to take their toll on Old
which remains the PQBFL’s most injured team at least based on what
matters the most - injury points. Old did not have an
incomplete lineup to begin with, but Godwin getting injured during
the game did not help; at least he had enough time to score 11.25
pts so not too far below his projection. The problem will be
for the rest of the season. There is no replacing Godwin, he
ranks WR4 in the PQBFL, even better than franchise player AmonRa WR7
and next man up McLaurin WR17 is borderline starter material.
This week Old also had a problem at LB with T Edmunds on bye, and
injuries to both EJ Speed and Singleton so Old was down to two
active LBs. Qi Williams only scored 6 pts and Jamin Davis was
a lamp post with only 1 point. Old would have been better off
starting a DB at flex instead; Ju Reid was benched and scored 14 pts
– this was the difference between 2nd place and 4th place. Old
nearly cracked the top 3 because they got enough production from
Burrow (2 TDs), Kyren Williams (2 TDs), and one TD each for Njoku
and Amon-Ra. However Kamara was a major drag with only 2 pts –
when the heck of CMC coming back? He is sorely needed with the
recent slowdown of Kamara. He averaged 19.3 pts per game from
week 1 to 4, but in the last 3 games he has only scored 5.4 pts per
game.
The Admirals had their highest finish since week #2 with 5th place
which played troublemakers with other teams such as Bas and
Prof. RB Gibbs was by far the best player of the week for Adm
with 26.25 pts by partially benefiting from Montgomery getting
banged up in the game and temporarily leaving. K Murray was
not stellar but did enough to lead the Cards to victory with 20 pts
which exceeded his projection and was key to beat Ball by only 2.25
pts and extended Adm’s lead in the standings to 10 rank-points which
is hard to overcome. This week marked the return of Chubb who
scored a short TD and ended the game with 7.5 pts. This made R
White expandable so he was benched, but that jerk chose this week
specifically to explode for 22.25 pts in a lost effort on the
bench. White had scored a total of 26.75 pts all year prior to
now so he could not be more frustrating for Adm’s brass. On
defense it was the first week for Adm being without injured
Hutchinson. He is not replaceable as DL1 in the PQBFL but the
problem is that both Adm backups are horrible (DL19-20 out of
22). This week Madubuike only scored 2 pts which was even less
than his rock-bottom projection.
The Ballers are trending up and finished outside of the red for the
second time in three weeks with 6th place. During this time
stretch, Ball have 10 rank-points which is as much as FE, and more
than Adm (9) and Prof (4) so Ball improved their winning percentage
to a less embarrassing 0.161. The Ballers scored a season-high
142.25 pts this week so they probably deserved a better outcome than
6th place, in fact it was the highest 6th place score of the
season. This week the Ballers were powered by an electric 42
pts performance by L-Jax and unlike some of his questionable
fake-MVP talk of 2023, this time he did it like a real QB: 5 TD
passes. He ended the game with 42 pts and took the lead over
Mayfield (Wax) as the highest scoring player in the PQBFL.
Ball also received surprising contribution from Javonte Williams who
had been buried for dead in this weekly summary a few weeks ago but
he scored 2 TDs for 19.25 pts. He still has ways to go
however, he now ranks RB32 in the league. Unlike Williams,
there is no doubt that K Walker is starter worthy and then
some. He scored 20.75 pts and is now RB4 in the PQBFL – firmly
in franchise player zone. He would make for a solid franchise
player combo with L-Jax to build from in 2025. Considering
that two of the three RBs ranked higher than Walker are a bit aging
(D Henry – Beaud, and Mixon – Dec), arguably Walker is one of the
most valuable franchise RBs.
The GloriousBastards had a very strong week #5-6 with first and
second but were punished in week #7 with 7th place, finishing far
behind their top 4 opponents in the standings Wax Beaud Old and Dec
so this week was very painful. Intra-game injuries are always
a killer, and M Evans got injured early which stung but at least he
had time to score on his lone reception of the game so he almost
ended the game with 10 pts despite only having one catch.
Bijan was team leader with 18.75 pts but there were otherwise many
results below expectations such as Purdy being picked off thrice and
finished with 10.25 pts. Mind you that was still better than
7.25 pts on the bench for Mahomes so the coach cannot be blamed for
that, but the spotlight on the coach was rather at the RB position
where Conner was benched (15 pts) in favor of journeyman Chase Brown
who only scored 4.25 pts. What on earth was the coach
thinking? It’s not like Conner was playing a top notch defense
– the Chargers were manageable, and the Bengals were on the road
against the Browns defense which is not creampuff unlike their
offense. The only good news is that Bas finished so far behind
Ball that it did not even matter.
FlyingElvis finished in the red for the third time in four weeks and
saw their lead over Adm in the standings melt to 2
rank-points. QB Josh Allen was happy to get a new weapon with
A Cooper (Wax), connected with him for a short TD and ended the game
with 21.75 pts. However the other recently traded WR Da Adams
did not achieve the same level of success despite being reunited
with his former QB in NY with the Jets, Adams only scored 5.5 pts
for FE this week. Diggs was the other starting WR and was
barely better with 6 pts. FE’s receiver problems extended to
the rookie position where McConkey only scored 5.75 pts while backup
rookie WR McCaffrey had a goose egg so he could not have
helped. FE also had the problem of having drafted two college
players with the same bye week so FE had an incomplete lineup.
On defense there were bright spots. Crosby had another sack
and B Branch had another INT. Crosby ranks DL2 but with
Hutchinson injured (Adm) Crosby is now effectively the most valuable
DL in the PQBFL. At DB Branch remains DB1 over anybody else,
injured or not. That guy won’t stop, he is yet to have a game
in the single digits.
ProfMJ was in sole possession of first place after 4 weeks and since
then everything has crumbled like a deck of cards with 8th, 9th, and
9th place. Prof is now more than 10 rank-points behind not 1,
not 2, but 3 teams in the standings so the 2024 season has possibly
evaporated in a short 3 weeks which is eerily similar to Dec’s
horrid 3-week season start. However both teams are headed in
different directions so Prof fell to 6th in the standings, now 5
rank-points behind Dec in 5th place. Prof scored a season-low
and league-low 85.75 pts this week and a mammoth 31.25 pts behind FE
in 8th place so even a couple of minor miracles would not have been
possible to get Prof out of last place. Besides Julian Love
having an INT and 14 pts, pretty much everything went wrong for
Prof. CD Lamb and Prescott were on bye and there was no help
forthcoming. Ju Herbert did not score a TD and Fields was
benched in favor of Ru Wilson. At WR Deebo exited the game
early due to an illness, he only scored one point and it was not
even a point scored on offense, it was a tackle after an INT. Diontae Johnson had three games of 15.75 pts or more
since Dalton became the QB but this week he was a disaster with only
1.75 pts even though the Panthers were playing from behind all game
long. And what to say of Kelce? The Chiefs have lost
their best two WRs and Kelce is still not getting the job done, this
week even being outscored by backup TE Noah Gray who had a stat line
of 4-66 easily besting Kelce with 4-17. It’s not like E Engram
is on fire but he beat Kelce on the Prof bench this week (6.75 pts
vs 4.75 pts) on also so far for the season (TE10 vs TE11). We
might see a healthy Kelce on the bench sooner rather than later – a
“swift” fall from grace for who was a franchise player only one year
ago for the Bros.
