Week #4
WaxOnWaxOff dominated week #4 and won for the first time of the
season. Who would have thought that A Richardson could be so
bad and Stafford be without his two star WRs, and yet Wax would not
miss a beat because Baker Freakin Mayfield would be the PQBFL’s top
scorer? Mayfield torched the Eagles for 3 TDs and 28.25 pts,
no turnover. In addition, this week Ju Jefferson scored and so
did rookie WR B Thomas. Wax won even without S Barkley being
able to reach 10 pts and Achane being held in check with only 2.25
pts. That’s because Wax was lights out on defense with 1 TD
and 3 turnovers by the 49ers defense, Nick Bosa contributing one
sack during that game, and DB Brisker who was all over the field
with 8 tackles, 4 assists, 1 sack, and 1 INT for 22 points. He
is now the highest scoring DB in the PQBFL if we ignore B Branch
(FE) who missed one game to injury but has a better average per
game.
ProfMJ lost to Wax but beating Old by 0.5 pt and Beaud by 1.75 pt
was quite important so Prof should consider themselves fairly
satisfied with second place this week. The Prescott-Lamb
connection took advantage of a good matchup against the Giants by
starting the week strong with 41.5 pts between them on TNF.
Prof gradually slowed as the weekend went on until MNF when J Cook
was a non-factor with only 4 pts and DB J Love was equally poor with
only 4 pts as well but it was just enough to hold off Old and
Beaud. TE Kelce showed signs of life with 7 receptions for
11.25 pts, perhaps in the end he will be able to improve after his
slow start if enough Chiefs WRs go down. Rookie Nabers was
excellent this week with 17.5 pts but got concussed so there is a
question mark for the upcoming week(s).
OldNo7 finished 3rd sandwiched between Prof and Beaud, powered by 2
TDs by Amon-Ra on MNF (18.25 pts) to beat Beaud by a small
margin. This tied for Old best score of the week with Burrow
who likewise scored 18.25 pts in the Bengals first win of the
season, it was about time. But they did so against the
Panthers in a high scoring affair and Burrow could not top 20 pts
and failed to reach his weekly projection. Both Kamara and K
Williams scored a short TD and had over 100 yds from scrimmage to
beat their projection unlike Burrow so they helped Old more than
Burrow did. There were also a couple of unexpected TDs by the
Browns defense and Freiermuth who helped Old while rookie Bowers
underperformed with only 3.5 pts, his worst game of the year.
Hopefully rookie RB Brooks can be activated soon, right in time with
the Panthers’ offense finally doing well now with Dalton at the
helm.
The BeaudoinBrothers got the short end of the stick against Prof and
Old with a painful 4th place. On MNF Montgomery started hot on
the first drive with lots of yardage and a TD but he was used
sparingly the rest of the game which was costly. D Henry had
the best score of the week with 28.75 pts but he also had a costly
play when he fumbled at the goal line recovered by his teammate
Ricard for the TD which was the difference between 2nd and 4th
place. Also the finger can be pointed at Aiyuk who only had 2
receptions for 4.25 pts, even Ty Hill benched without a viable QB
would have been better with a measly 6 pts.
The Decepticons had a healthy QB this week because J Love ended up
playing after being questionable, and was a bit rusty at the
beginning. Then once the Packers were down 28-0 Love got
started and threw for 4 TDs and almost 400 yards but his 3 INTs were
problematic. Nonetheless he scored 29.25 pts to get Dec out of
the hole and in 5th place which was Dec’s best result of the young
season. One of those TDs was to J Reed who was second best
starter for Dec with 20 pts. J Taylor also scored a short TD
and the only other player to score a TD for Dec was rookie Caleb but
he had another game below projections with 9.5 pts. On defense
the Chiefs were solid in a win against the Chargers by only allowing
10 pts but all four individual defenders underperformed relative to
their weekly projection.
The Admirals partially recovered from their disastrous week #3 and
finished 6th place this week which was still not that great.
Rookie Worthy scored a long TD and might end up benefiting
significantly if R Rice misses significant time. J Gibbs
scored 2 TDs on MNF to edge Bas thanks to 16.5 pts. However
Adm’s top scorer of the week was neither Worthy or Gibbs, it was
rather WR Nico Collins who exploded with an impressive stat line of
12-151-1. If we do not count AJ Brown who has only played one
game, Collins is not only Adm’s top WR but also the PQBFL’s top WR
as well. The reasons Adm finished in the bottom half this week
were two-fold. First off, on defense there were several big
underperformers with 3.5 pts from the Texans defense, 3 pts from
Hutchinson, and 5 pts from Hines-Allen. In addition, QB Murray
did not even crack 10 pts despite not turning the ball over.
His passing stats were poor and he was even worse on the ground with
only 3 rushing yards, unlike his typical running self.
The GloriousBastards had not scored less than 141.25 pts in the
first three weeks but could only muster 120.75 pts this week to sink
to 7th place. It took a TD from LB Fred Warner to avoid
an even worse result; Warner’s 20 pts was Bas’ best score of the
week, followed by J Chase who scored a long TD of 63 yards but did
next to nothing the rest of the game (2 receptions for 22
yards). The worst news of the game was WR R Rice potentially
tearing his ACL and he might be done for the season – we will soon
find out. He had been an early surprise by ranking WR3 in the
PQBFL after three weeks so Bas will need to go back to M Evans as a
regular starter. The double whammy is the impact on Mahomes
who was already playing without newly acquired M Brown.
Mahomes only scored 14 pts this week and is not even starting
material at this stage, ranking QB14 in the PQBFL.
Unfortunately backups Purdy and Levis have been doing even worse so
Bas might have to stick with Mahomes no matter what.
The Ballers finished 8th for the second straight week but only have
6 rank-points total after 4 weeks which is an exceedingly poor
outcome with a winning percentage of 0.063 (2 wins, 30
losses). On MNF K Walker returned to health and dominated with
3 TDs and 27.5 pts but that was only good enough to beat FE and
nobody else. The Ballers are stuck in neutral at the rookie
position in part because Caleb (Dec) is not getting the job done so
Rome cannot get fed the ball; Rome only scored 1.5 pt this week so
his 16.5 pt game in week #3 was only a blip. He ranks ROO13 in
the PQBFL and he cannot be considered a viable starter at this point
but Ball does not have better backups. At WR the injury to
Nacua hurts and Garrett Wilson continues to be a huge disappointment
(WR28) with only 4 pts this week. The other starter Zay
Flowers was also horrible with only 1.5 pt.
FlyingElvis’ descent to hell is complete: 3rd in week 1, 4th in week
2, 6th in week 3, and last in week 4. The sad thing is that FE
finished last despite several unexpected positive games from non-key
players such as college RB Jeanty scoring 4 TDs and rushing for 259
yds (11.5 pts), rookie McConkey scoring a TD and 13.25 pts, DB Vonn
Bell had one INT and 11 pts, while LB Wagner beat his weekly
projection with 14 pts. However the problem is that players
who are supposed to carry FE sucked so bad that it overwhelmed the
entire team. Josh Allen was amazingly bad with only 4.75 pts
which is not the kind of score we expect from the 2023 top scorer of
the PQBFL. Last year Allen did not score less than 11.75 pts
all year except in week 1. At RB, both Etienne and Jacobs are
trending towards bust status. They rank RB25 and RB30
respectively, below all backup RBs on FE’s roster: Charbonnet RB10,
Dobbins RB13, and Ekeler RB24. Talk about the world upside
down. At WR D Adams was out which was an unsurmountable loss
because Mims is useless, M Brown might not play all year, and that
forced D Hopkins to start and he only caught 2 passes. The
best that FE can hope for is for D Adams to be traded away from LV.
