Week #3

After finishing week #1 in the red, OldNo7 is back on top of the standings where they finished 2023, thanks to second place in week #2 and the team’s first win in 2024 this week.  J Burrow had a big game on MNF with 3 TDs and 31 pts which was a partial recovery from his poor season start although the Bengals lost anyway.  RB K Williams also had 3 TDs but unlike Burrow his performance made a difference as the Rams beat the 49ers.  After 3 weeks Williams sits at RB6 in the PQBFL which is even better than his already somewhat elevated pre-season ranking on most draft lists.  Both Old WRs Amon-Ra and Godwin scored a short TD to round-off a solid offensive week for Old.  Defense was more average with three individual defenders scoring between 10-12 pts which is not bad, but that was offset by only 3 pts by Sam Hubbard and by an ugly home loss by the Browns whose defense did not get the job done against the lowly Giants.

The GloriousBastards had their best result of the young season with second place.  On MNF Bas tried a comeback attempt but J Chase’s two TDs were cancelled out by Burrow (Old) so Chase’s 26.75 pt effort was good enough to beat Prof but it was realistically not really possible to catch Old who had the QB throwing to Chase.  Bas’ other WR was almost equally good with 23.5 pts from R Rice who will probably end up benefiting from M Brown being out for the year.  Rookie Bo Nix had his first career win with 15.75 pts which was more than he scored in weeks #1-2 combined (10.25 pts).  On defense only 1 out of 4 defenders scored double digits (Derwin James) but the Steelers were solid with 15 pts.

ProfMJ remained tied at the top of the standings with third place this week.  Prescott was team leader with 30 pts but oddly that did not benefit CD Lamb who lagged with only 4.25 pts including a fumble lost.  The WR which carried the load was surprisingly D Johnson with 19 pts as he started in place of injured D Samuel.  Prof did not miss a beat and the timing was perfect for the benching of B Young (FE) in favor of Dalton who suddenly made Johnson a top WR.  Prof essentially starts 3 WRs every week because the team’s rookie WRs are as good as veteran WRs, this week Harrison scored 14 pts and Nabers was on the bench with 22 pts which is a coaching call which cost Prof second place.  After three weeks, Nabers and Harrison rank ROO2 and 3.  If they were WRs instead, Nabers would be WR4 and WR9 – both starting material.  Not bad at all.

The BeaudoinBrothers had a poor start on TNF with a negative score by R Stevenson and only 2 pts by Dugger.  The Sunday 1pm games were rough as well with only 7 pts by CJ Stroud and 5 pts by Ty Hill who now even lost his backup QB to injury.  The Bros were able to climb themselves out of the hole on MNF thanks to a solid road win by J Daniels against the Bengals.  Daniels scored 28.5 pts and is the only rookie to have outscored Harrison and Nabers.  Similarly to the comparison above, if Daniels was a QB not a rookie, he would be worth a starter spot as he would rank QB6.  Beaud could have finished this week higher if not for the bad game by Aiyuk who only scored 7.25 pts despite both Kittle (Ball) and Samuel (Prof) being out to injury.  Aiyuk was completely eclipsed by his teammate J Jennings who caught 3 TDs.

WaxOnWaxOff had a second straight middling week with 5th place.  S Barkley was the best Wax player on the field with 28 pts.  So far Barkley is second best in the entire PQBFL, barely behind Josh Allen (23.5 pts vs 23.0 pts). While good things are to be expected from Barkley, Wax’s second best score this week was far more surprising.  While Wax waits for Hockenson to come back to health, Kmet started and he scored 19.5 pts after a very slow start in the first two weeks.  Wax’s two WRs also scored a TD like Kmet but they did not outscore him, with 15 pts from Ju Jefferson and 17 pts from DK Metcalf.  Rookie B Thomas was the only starting pass catcher who did not score with only 7.25 pts on MNF.  Defense was porous for Wax this week with 4 pts each from the 49ers and Nick Bosa, while Oluokun barely did better with 4.5 pts.

FlyingElvis continued to trend down; after 3rd place in week #1 and 4th place in week #2, FE settled for 6th this week.  Josh Allen bailed FE from a much worse result thanks for 30.25 pts on MNF and his previous WR Diggs was the only other starter on offense who showed up to play with 14.75 pts.  M Andrews had a goose egg and RBs Dobbins+Jacobs were non-factors with only 8.5 pts combined.  On defense the Packers were stellar with 23 pts including a TD in a dominating road win in TEN, but the normally solid Maxx Crosby was limited to only 4.5 pts which was a fraction of what he did in weeks 1-2 (11 pts and 17.5 pts).  Even college RB Jeanty cooled down, after a torrid start including the week before the start of the PQBFL, he was on bye in week #2 and perhaps he rested on his laurels too much because he only scored 2.5 pts this week after his return from the week off.

The Decepticons modestly improved from 8th in weeks #1-2 to 7th despite playing without a starting QB which is a nearly impossible handicap to overcome.  Dec only needed a below average 14.5 pts from any QB and would have finished 4th instead of 7th.  All 4 of Dec’s position players RBs-WRs scored double digits, led by 23.25 pts from J Taylor.  Even rookie Caleb Williams showed signs of life despite losing.  He scored 13.5 pts which was better than his horrible season start (9.5 pts in first two weeks combined) but still below his weekly projection so he needs to do better.  Defense was hit and miss for Dec, Z Franklin had a solid game with 15 pts but co-LB TJ Edwards was AWOL with only 2 pts; Edwards’ poor effort made their combined starting LB score lower than their joint weekly projection.

The Ballers finished out of the cellar for the first time of the season but barely, with 8th place.  QB L-Jax had a difficult matchup in Dallas but he could not be denied and outscored his weekly projection with a solid 24.25 pts.  Rookie Rome scored his first TD of the year with 16.5 pts which was the Ballers’ second best score of the week.  Zack Moss and G Wilson both scored a short TD to reach double digits.  However Ball was held back by Javonte Williams still being as poor as in years past when he had an injury excuse unlike this year.  This week Williams scored 0.25 pt in a game that the Broncos played well and won easily 26-7 in TB.  Williams was outrushed by some no-name called Badie.  Except for the fact that Badie was moved back to the practice squad after the game, it will soon be time to kick Williams to the curb permanently.

After a decent season start, Adm hit the wall this week with only 86.25 pts.  Franchise player AJ Brown’s absence from injury is starting to bite with none of the other 4 WRs on Adm’s roster reaching double digits this week.  N Collins started and came close with 9.25 pts but the other starting WR Doubs only scored 1.75 pts and possibly does not belong in the PQBFL.  He ranks WR40 in the PQBFL after three weeks.  At RB J Gibbs was fine with 15.5 pts but the other starting RB R White only scored 3.75 pts.  It’s time to revisit this catastrophic pick by Adm’s GM.  White has gradually been losing carries to rookie RB Bucky Irving (Beaud) as shown by this week’s stat line Irving 9-70 vs White 6-17.  But what stings the most is that RB James Cook (Prof) was available at the time Adm drafted White.  Cook ranks RB5 in the PQBFL while R White ranks RB30.  Unsurprisingly, immediately after White was drafted at 18th overall, Cook was taken by Prof at 19th.
