Week
#15
And it does indeed appear that Old No 7 will be this year’s PQBFL
champion! With another great week taking first place and, coupled
with another dreadful performance by Beaudoin Bros, he has pushed
his lead to a whopping 13 points with 3 weeks to go! Barring some
sort of catastrophe it looks like Old will walk to the victory this
year. This week he had a totally dominant McCaffrey but also
outstanding performances by St. Brown at WR and Njoku at TE. The
Browns D chipped in with 16 pts and after reviewing Old’s lineup
there was only one real gap in it and that was at the QB position
with Dak. Old has been very consistent of late with top 2 finishes
in 4 of the last 5 weeks. As written last week, this is a feel good
story about a veteran team with a history not unlike the Lions and
the Browns of the NFL. Everyone has to be feeling pretty good for
Old and he deserves a big pat on the back for a great season!
The only other real competitor for the championship this year, the
Beaudoin Bros, have fallen on hard times the last two weeks and
finished in 8th place this week. This is extremely rare for
Patrick’s team to fall off late like this. Two things really hurt BB
this week, the loss of Stroud at the rookie position, and the fact
that James Cook was on the bench but collected 31.25 fantasy points.
During the week 9-12 stretch it looked like BB was going to run away
with this thing. They won 3 of those 4 weeks and seemed poised to
win the league once again, but the Stroud injury and weak efforts
from Kelce hurt this team badly. It was a bit surprising BB did not
start Davante Adams this week, he was the most productive receiver
of this team’s bunch but was on the bench. When reviewing coaching
efficiency it seems BB made all the wrong choices this week with a
paltry 64% efficiency.
2nd place went to the Glorious Bastards this week largely due to the
continuing feel-good story of the NFL, Brock Purdy. He wracked up 33
big points this week with another great week. GB got unusually good
production from him Tampa players Rachaad White and Mike Evans in a
surprisingly high scoring TB win. RB James Conner also contributed
12.25. Rachaad White is currently RB5 in the league which I think is
a bit surprising, and GB had receivers #5 (Evans) and #6 (Chase)
which has helped him to get to 3rd place, 6 rank points behind BB
but with BBs sudden slide it is not out of the question for GB to
get 2nd place.
Decepticons finished 3rd this week but remains in the bottom 1/3rd
of the overall league standings, currently sitting in 7th place but
only 3 rank points from 6th. Decept has to feel a little bit down on
Mahomes who very surprisingly is QB10 in the league. He can’t be a
big Taylor Swift fan right now as clearly she has Kelce thinking
about things other than football. Tua also was looking like a
sure-fire top 3 QB early but has cooled. Waddle and rookie Sam
Laporta carried this team this week with 23 pts and 24.75 pts
respectively. Laporta has been a very nice surprise for Decept.
Decepticons has an awful 78.6% coaching efficiency for the year so
there is improvement needed here.
The Admirals grabbed 4th this week and are playing out the string
hoping to be able to maintain an 8th place finish. Injuries have
killed this team and it is all but certain these guys will have the
#1 overall pick next year as they have more than 400 more injury
points than the nearest team to them in that category. Key injuries
include QB Watson, RB Chubb, WRs Olave and M Williams, TE Dulcich,
all of whom likely would have been week over week starters. This
week Kyler Murray disappointed with only 7 pts and backup Tannehill
has long since been benched so they’ve been down to 1 QB most of the
year. At RB, they got a total of 0.75 pts this week (YIKES!) not
counting Gibbs who was elevated from rookie to RB. Despite this they
managed the 4th place finish due to Tee Higgins 20 pts, the
Dolphins 25.5 and former rookie Jahmyr Gibbs 20. Gibbs would be
rookie #6 and as a RB is 5th in the PQBFL, and this team also has
Maxx Crosy and Justin Tucker who are #1 ranked in their positions.
5th place went to Flying Elvis, and it feels like this is about
where Elvis ended up in the standings most weeks this year. Very
average. Somehow Josh Allen is QB1 but it sure doesn’t feel that
way. Another so-so week for him with 16 pts. Austin Ekeler has
basically decided to stop playing altogether, getting only 3 pts
this week in another dismal effort. The Chargers team is an absolute
mess right now. The only real bright spots for FE this week were
Amari Cooper, the Ravens D and LBs Watt and Wagner. Wagner, Mr.
Irrelevent this year, is LB#6 in the league. Rookie Bryce Young has
been a big disappointment for FE as well.
The Ballers took 6th place which is a moral victory for this team
that sits at the bottom of the standings and it does not appear they
will crawl out of the cellar as they are 8 pts behind the nearest
other team. Cooper Kupp was the star of the week this week for this
team with 8 receptions for 111 yds and a TD. Rookie Rashee Rich also
had a very good game with 9 catches for 91 and a TD. Some
opportunities were missed by the coach though, namely the Saints who
scored 17 vs. 5 for the starting Bengals and Jared Goff had a huge
game with 37.5 vs. Lamar’s 16.5.
Professor MJ is currently sitting in 4th place and this week’s 7th
place finish cannot be sitting well with them. They lost 5 rank
points to the Bastards which is exactly how many points GB is now
ahead of this team for 3rd. Justin Herbert has been a disappointment
for this team and with the Chargers in the state they are in it
would be lucky if he were to come back and be effective. Once good
news for MJ is Derek Carr had a good week so he has a viable backup
now. This team has WRs2+3 overall with Keenan Allen and CeeDee Lamb.
It will be interesting to see if Keenan can continue his high level
of play. The big miss by this coach this week was Jordan Addison of
Minn who had a big game scoring 23.5 but he was benched.
As mentioned above, 8th place went to Beaudoin Brothers.
And the last place finish this week went to WaxOnWaxOff. This is the
first time since week 1 this team came in last. The injuries to
Burrow , AJ Dillon, Christian Kirk are rookie AJ Richardson (as well
as rookie Will Anderson Jr) are severely impacting this team. At QB,
they are fortunate to have Stafford who starts because both Burrow
and Pickett are hurt. Despite having 6 RBs, 5 of whom were healthy
this week, they only got 6.75 pts from the position and couldn’t
have done much better no matter who they started. Receiver JJ (who
was also hurt for a period of time this season) did not have a good
game either. Wax is 7 points out of 5th place and only 3 pts
above 7th, so they will need to get some players to turn it around
to stay in the middle.
