Week
#11
The BeaudoinBrothers beat Old by one spot to take sole possession of
first place in the standings and might also own the tie-breaker
because they scored almost 20 pts more in total than Old; normally
beating a team by one spot is done by less than 20 pts. The
Bros were in control before MNF but got a minor scare when Hurts and
Kelce started MNF badly in addition to Old’s players doing well in
the first 30 minutes, but in the end the situation rectified itself
when Hurts ran for 2 TDs in the second half to put Old away.
Nonetheless both Hurts and Kelce underperformed relative to
projections and first place this week was rather thanks to unlikely
heroes such as the Bills defense which had struggled from week #4-10
but playing the Jets was the perfect remedy. The Bills scored
23 pts to lead the Bros on the scoreboard. Also WR has not
been a strength for Beaud but this week Aiyuk (20.75 pts) and D
Adams (19 pts) got the job done and together almost matched the
output from the Old star duo of WRs Ty Hill and Amon-Ra.
OldNo7 had to settle for second but at least beat Prof by a healthy
margin such that Old now has a firm grasp of second place at the
very least and only needs to worry about one team, not two. As
mentioned above Old’s WRs did well with 41 pts combined and this
week Levis was able to avoid turnovers and also scored 2 TDs in
garbage time to end the game with 15.25 pts. Defense was stout
for Old with the Browns limiting the Steelers to 10 pts in a home
win, and LBs Singleton + TJ Edwards were dominant with 31 pts
combined. Old was playing with an incomplete lineup again
because college QB McCall has not returned from his concussion but
Old finished far enough behind Beaud that it probably did not affect
the outcome. What Old needed to beat Beaud was a better game
from Kmet among others, who only scored 4 pts in a game where the
Bears were able to move the ball and scored 26 pts so Kmet not
participating statistically was surprising. Also Prescott was
fine with 17.75 pts but it was below his projection and also not as
stellar as his recent high level performance; it was his worst game
since week #5.
The GloriousBastards finished in the top 3 for the second straight
week and also beat FE by 4 ranks in both week 10-11 to completely
eliminate the gap that was separating them from 4th place and are
now tied with FE and own the tiebreaker. GB surprisingly
benched Ju Herbert who ranks QB3 in the league, and started Purdy
instead. It’s not that Herbert was playing a tough defense, in
fact Herbert had a pretty good game on the bench with 28.5 pts but
Purdy rewarded the coach by beating Herbert slightly with 30 pts to
top all starters in Bas’ lineup for the week. As it’s been the
case on most weeks this season, the fortunes of Bas were tied to
defense and this week was the same. The Cowboys easily
manhandled the Panthers and also scored a TD for 26 pts.
Dallas leads all other defenses in the PQBFL by 2.8 pts per game
which is almost as good as McCaffrey (Old) who is 3.1 pts per game
ahead of any other RB. Equally dominating is college QB J
Daniels who is also ahead of all others college players by the same
margin as DAL (2.8 pts) and this week Daniels padded his lead with
an eye-popping game of 8 TDs, over 400 yards passing and almost 100
yards rushing. Holy cow. Even for college standards this is
huge. The reason Bas missed out on the top 2 this week was A
Jones who got injured and exited early after scoring only 1.25 pts.
WaxOnWaxOff finished above average for the second straight week but
remains far behind FE and far ahead of Dec in the standings so they
are firmly stuck in 6th place. Wax will be more likely to look
over their shoulder in the standings because now Burrow is out for
the year so that will further hurt Wax in 2023 and possibly won’t
even help in 2024. Wax is so far behind Adm in injury points
that it’s unlikely Wax will finish on top: Adm leads by over 300
injury points (1528-1226) and the current earn rate of Adm is
greater than Wax even if we add Burrow to the injury list. The
only positive of Burrow’s injury is that it might prevent Ball from
catching up Wax in injury points so Wax should finish 2nd.
This week Burrow ended his 2023 season with a TD pass and then his
wrist exploded without contact. The biggest stars of the week
were RBs with Barkley scoring 2 TDs to lead the Giants to a rare win
and J Warren scored on a long TD; both Barkley and Warren reached 20
pts and were by far the best RB duo of the PQBFL this week (43.5
pts) scoring much more than the second most productive RB combo this
week which was Montgomery-Hall for Dec (24 pts). On
defense Okereke also reached the 20-point mark with lots of tackles
+ assists in addition to two forced fumbles.
The Decepticons finished in the middle three for the fourth time in
5 weeks, finishing more than 20 pts behind Wax so a better result
was not really close to happening. It would have required a
big game from Mahomes on MNF but once again he was lackluster with
15.75 pts which was materially below his weekly projection.
Mahomes only ranks QB9 which is a poor investment result for a
franchise player considering that other QBs which were much cheaper
at draft time, currently rank ahead of Mahomes such as Purdy (QB7,
Bas) and Goff (QB8, Ball). This is starting to feel like
Mahomes’ final act as multi-year Dec franchise player and we might
see him in a different uniform next year unless Dec drafts him again
in the open market. Besides Mahomes, the week’s top score for
Dec was Hopkins with a garbage time TD for 14.75 pts, it was
refreshing that for once Dec chose the correct WR to start with
Lockett scoring 8.5 pts on the bench. Rookie Achane made an
anticipated return to the starting lineup after missing 4 games to
injury (plus a bye week) but his return was a wet firecracker
because he got injured again after only one carry and one reception
and exited the game.
The Admirals finished out of the red for the second time in three
weeks which is an accomplishment considering that Adm had far more
injury points this week (194) than the second highest, the Ballers
with 120. RB Gibbs had another good game with 12.75 pts so he
continues to perform despite the return to health of Montgomery
(Dec) which is music to Adm GM’s ears. There is no way D Henry
can be a franchise player in 2024 as his downfall continued this
week with only 3.5 pts against the Jaguars which is a team that he
feasted on in previous year. Not anymore. Henry dropped
from RB7 to RB9 in the league. Could Adm franchise
Chubb? Maybe but there will be injury risk and Gibbs is much
younger than Chubb. Gibbs’ level of play since Montgomery
returned has been impressive enough to warrant starting the
franchise player discussion at this stage. Another good news
for Adm was that K Murray scored 19.75 pts so the rust is slowing
coming off. He is badly needed with Watson out for the year
and Tannehill riding the pine. The rest of Adm’s offense was a
disaster particularly the receivers. Higgins and M Williams
are injured and Olave was on bye so that forced the KC WR zombies in
the starting lineup: Skyy Moore and K Toney scored a combined 4.25
pts. Those incompetent WRs rank 43-44 in the PQBFL out of 47
WRs, despite having Mahomes throwing the rock. Nice.
Also all three of Adm’s TEs were injured so Adm had a goose egg at
the position which surely cost 5th place because Dec was only 1.75
pt ahead this week.
FlyingElvis had their worst score of the season with 108.25 pts,
finished 7th and saw their lead over Bas evaporate. FE’s coach
made the puzzling decision to bench the best QB in the league Josh
Allen in favor of backup J Love (QB14 in the league).
Thankfully Love did not have a bad week with 22 pts but Allen beat
him nonetheless with 27.25 pts. Besides Kittle who scored
17.25 pts, the rest of FE’s offense was catastrophic by all accounts
with 2.75 pts from Ekeler (1 fumble lost), G Wilson 0.25 pt (1
fumble lost), B Young 3.25 pts (2 turnovers), and finally Etienne +
M Brown doing very little worth noting except that they did not turn
the ball over unlike their teammates. Even kicker R Patterson
was below projections with only 3 pts. FE was able to avoid
finishing lower with 13 pts from TJ Watt and 11 pts from
Wagner. But the rest of the defense was not as good, for
example A Donald only had one tackle and his final score was only
helped by 3 QB hits. He’s not the guy he used to be, being
tied DL9-10 for the season so barely starter material.
ProfessorMJ was the only team who did not finish in the red from
weeks #1-10 but that all changed in week #11 with a back-breaking
8th place while Beaud and Old took 1st and 2nd which put a huge dent
in Prof’s chances for this year. To make matters worse star TE
M Andrews got injured by Beaud’s own LB Logan Wilson on a
questionable tackle to sideline Andrews for the rest of the regular
season, leaving Prof with only E Engram as the lone remaining
healthy TE. QB G Smith was also banged up and missed some
time; Smith finished this week with a mediocre 12.75 pts. It
is unclear if he will miss week #12 but at least D Carr should be
back to health after his own bye week. So while the injury
points have not been accumulating for Prof yet (7th in the league),
that is on the verge of taking a turn for the worse which will make
it very difficult for Prof to keep up at the top considering that
Beaud+Old are the two healthiest teams in the PQBFL which partially
explains their success. Injuries were not the only problem for
Prof this week however. The Jets defense was toothless against
the Bills and only scored 0.5 pt. Sunday had been bad enough
already for Prof, but MNF was even worse with AJ Brown scoring only
2.25 pts so Prof could not even beat FE who had a bad week
themselves – even a pedestrian game by AJ Brown of 6.75 pts or more
would have been enough to beat FE but Brown could not even reach
this very modest target.
The Ballers finished in the basement for the third consecutive week
and are now only one rank-point ahead of Adm in the standings.
Similar to Adm, Ball was 0/3 on healthy TEs as an injury epidemic
has hit the position. Ball also had another goose egg at LB
with Golden staying in the starting lineup despite toxic levels of
crappiness – he ranks 40 out of 40 LBs in the PQBFL and yet the
coach sends him to the starting lineup on a regular basis.
It’s not like the Ballers do not have other options, for example LB
Highsmith scored 6 pts on the bench or even as flex DB Simmons was
benched with 8.5 pts or DL Kenny Clark 6.5 pts. Golden is so
bad that he’s not only dead last for LBs but would also be dead last
as a DL except for Chandler Jones (FE) who is mentally deranged and
has not played a game this season. If we compare to DBs,
Golden would also nearly be last on that list, except for Logan Ryan
(Ball) who similarly to Chandler Jones is a free agent and has not
played a game, and John Johnson III (Old) who is the most sucky on
defense all positions combined with an average of 0.8 pt per game so
at least Golden beats one guy. There were very few good news
for Ball this week who scored a season-low 87.75 pts; the previous
low was 89 pts by Wax in week 1. Only two starters scored more
than 10 pts: Chris Jones had a nice game on MNF in a futile effort
of 2 sacks, and QB L Jackson easily beat his projection with 26.25
pts in a key home win against the Bengals.
