Week #9
Weekly summary provided by FlyingElvis!
Week 9 saw the BeaudoinBros take the lead in the standings in the
tight 3-way battle between them, OldNo7 and ProfessorMJ. Halfway
through the season it looks like this could continue to be a
contentious battle with most others on the outside looking in. Elvis
has a shot at getting into the mix but with 3 teams ahead of him
it’s not going to be easy. This year the league has huge disparity
from the haves and the have-nots, with the bottom 4 seemingly out of
the race and fighting for a shot for 5th place overall. This will be
difficult though as there is an 8 point separation between 5th and
6th, and there is also a 8 point difference between 4th and 5th. We
will see how things shake out as the bye weeks start to slow and
players attempt to get more healthy.
BeaudoinBros got a big win this week thanks to an incredible 46.75
point effort by CJ Stroud who leads all rookies in the league by
almost 4 points per game. Other big factors leading to the win were
Jalen Hurts (QB2 in the league, BB continues to thank Elvis for
trading him this guy last year) and a big IDP week where his
defensive players tallied 48 points. One statistic that tells you a
lot about the BB team this year is that their coaching efficiency
wasn’t all that great, with only an 83.4% efficiency rating this
week. This tells you that the team is stacked, even when the coach
makes mistakes they win. It could be bad news for the rest of the
league especially if Stroud keeps doing what he’s been doing.
Another noteworthy item this week is Travis Kelce had a horrible
game with only 3.5 pts. Apparently he’s getting a little too much
Swift these days!
FlyingElvis continued his hot streak with a 2nd place finish, and
two 1st place finishes in the prior 4 weeks. As mentioned above, the
lead of the top 3 may be insurmountable but Elvis has not yet left
the building! The FE team was mainly paced by a strong Ravens
defensive effort accounting for 20 points. Somehow Josh Allen
managed 22 points despite what looked and felt like a bad game for
him, including a big late INT. Amari Cooper enjoyed DeShaun Watson’s
return, getting 1 TD for 17.75 points, and Ekeler did what he was
supposed to do getting 15.75 and two TDs. Elvis had a 97% efficiency
which is what was, and will continue, to be needed if he wants to
stay in this race. Etienne, his most reliable RB, was on bye this
week so he had to start Akers who, like seemingly always, stunk.
Elvis also had decent production from his IDPs.
Positions 3-6 this week were only separated by a total of 10 points.
Third place went to the Admirals of all teams this week. Ton is
learning a lesson this year: don’t let Elvis pick your team! No F1
races for him next year on draft day! This team has been in
the tank since week 2, with massive amounts of injury points as the
main reason. They lead the league in injury points by almost 150
over the next closest. As mentioned, Adm got a sorely needed return
at the QB position by DeShaun Watson. Mr. Massage got 20 points
while Murray and Tannehill both remain on the injury list. The big
stars for this team this week were, unusually, the two starting DLs.
Crosby and Sieler combined for 30.5 points. Crosby is DL1 in the
league so far this year and Adm also has Winfield who is DB#1. A
solid defensive effort by the Pack provided 18.5 points and kicker
Tucker another 12. Receivers Olave and Higgins had decent efforts as
well, adding 13.25 and 13.5 respectively. Looking at this team, it’s
going to be an uphill battle to have weeks like this one it seems.
The injury list is seemingly affecting all positions especially the
skill ones.
OldNo7 came in 4th this week. Prescott had 28 pts in that big Philly
loss leading the way for the team, and the Browns got 24 big pts in
their convincing win over the lowly Cards. Old missed RB1 McCaffrey
this week, who was on bye. With 2 remaining stud QBs, RBs #1+4 and
Wrs 1+5 in the league this team looks formidable. The Cousins injury
was a big one though, as he was statistically Old’s #1 QB. Tyreek
Hill had a quieter than expected game, only scoring 8 this week vs.
KC in Germany. Old also missed an opportunity with Kmet this week.
He scored two TDs and racked up 21.75 but was on the bench and Njoku
only scored 10.25. That 11.5 pt differential would have provided an
additional rank point for Old. Old’s college player scored 0 and
rookie Will Levis only got 5.5 points, so these two categories also
cost Old.
Professor MJ took 5th this week and was hurt by poor RB play. Swift,
of the true Kelce/Swift combo, only managed 3 measly points with a
fumble lost and only 43 rushing yds. Additionally Pollard had a weak
game with only 5.5 pts and 53 rush yds. Carr had a good game at QB
which is a must now for MJ as Daniel Jones went down for the season.
The Saints bye week is coming up in 2 weeks so MJ will need Geno
Smith to get back to where he was last year. This team has good
depth at WR with WRs 3, 7, 8 and 9 overall in the league. No other
team has nearly as many top 10 options at the position. Mark Andrews
also scored well with 9 receptions for 80 yds and 13 pts. On the
defensive side, LB Jordan Hicks had a nice game with 17.5, and MJ
missed Foye this week who was on bye. Foye is LB#2 and last year was
LB#1 overall. Rookie Jordan Addison had a decent game as well,
contributing 7.5 from the rookie position. He’s rookie #4 overall.
6th place went to Decepticons who totalled 128 pts and were narrowly
edged by Prof for 5th (by 1.75 pts). Mahomes disappointed with only
17.5 pts and surprisingly is only QB6 in the league. The KC offense
hasn’t been as crazy good as it has been in prior years (at least
not yet). Decept also had two RBs on bye this week and a very
milk-toast effort at the WR position, only getting a maximum of 7.25
pts out of the 5 WRs he has. On the bright side, Dalton Schultz put
up 18.5 with 10 catches for 130 yds and a TD. Too bad he also had a
fumble else he would have had a very good game overall. The Chiefs D
has also proven to be very tough this year, and added 16 pts.
Also the injury to Zaire Franklin kept LB#1 in the league out of the
lineup for Decept.
The Glorious Bastards came in 7th this week and are in 5th place
currently but as mentioned there is an 8 rank pt gap to get to 4th.
RB Rachaad White led the way with 19.75 pts with 2 TDs and 4
receptions and also RB Aaron Jones contributed 10.25. The other
bright spots were IDP, with Jordyn Brooks of Seattle scoring 13.5
pts on 9 tackles and Jordan Poyer getting 12 on 8 tackles and 3
assists. After that things drop off this week for GB, with QB
Herbert only getting 5.75 pts in a paltry performance. Even though
he is ranked QB5 it doesn’t feel like he has done much of anything
this year and it’s backed up by the Chargers overall mediocrity. Not
that he would have started another QB, but if he wanted to GB
couldn’t as Fields remains hurt and Purdy was on bye. With only 4
total RBs and one hurt, GB is down to essentially 2 viable RBs which
will continue to hurt this team. At the college level, his Caleb
Williams won and cried to his mommy in the stands so I guess that
8.75 helped a little bit too.
WaxOnWaxOff had a bad week and came in 8th. This team is usually in
the running but this year has not been kind to this team. They’ve
been mostly consistently middling, but have fallen in the last two
weeks toward the bottom. The big bright spot on this team is the
emerging Joe Burrow. Ranked #15 currently, he has been steadily
improving as have the Bengals and if both continue to improve this
should help Wax a lot. The RB position is a real problem for Wax.
Though Saquon has been ok, he has not been anything like what we
expected of him a couple/few years ago, and he is the brightest spot
on this team by a lot. After him the best option has been Khalil
Herbert who is RB#25 and is injured, and from there you do further
down the list. At the WR position the loss of Ju Jefferson and Drake
London are devastating and this week the only 2 Wax could start
scored a total of 6 pts. The loss of the promising rookie Anthony
Richardson has also hurt this team badly. With all these injuries
Wax got 210 injury points and is only behind Admirals in this
category.
Wiping up the rear this week was the Ballers. On the bright side,
Josh Jacobs had a good week with 18 pts and Stefon Diggs had 18.25,
but the defense on this team is, to put it mildly, dreadful. The
IDPs combined for a total of 13 pts this week which makes it hard to
compete. A review of the IDPs on this team shows that of all the IDP
positions the highest ranked player they have is Chris Jones at
DL#16. Injuries have hurt the team at the TE position, leaving only
one available and that is Hayden Hurst who is way down the list at
TE#19. At the QB position, Lamar is QB#12 and Goff was on bye. The
Rodgers injury also hurt and there’s no way anyone starts Mac Jones
in any league these days.
