Week #6
The Decepticons bounced back nicely from their week #5 fiasco with
their first win of the season, almost topping 200 points. It
was not Mahomes who did the job however as he struggled with 2 more
INTs and threw for the same number of TD and finished below his
weekly projection. The team leader was rather C Kupp with
scored 27.5 pts; he still dominates the WR position, ahead of Ty
Hill (Prof) with an average of 20.1 vs 17.9 for Hill. An
honorable mention goes to Mixon and Fant this week who both scored
20.75 pts. Mixon has been a mild disappointment but nothing
terrible, it was the first time since week 1 that he scored more
than 10.5 pts so he appropriately took advantage of the weak Lions
defense. Fant has been a better performer than Mixon so far as
he ranks TE5 in the league, higher than what was expected and right
on the heels of Waller (Bas) at TE4. Defense was soild for Dec
this week which helped to easily distance Prof and Beaud in first
place with 17.5 pts from the Rams and 16 pts from D Leonard.
Those two can be expected to do well, but the bigger surprise was JJ
Watt coming in the starting lineup for N Bosa who was on bye and
Watt responded with 13.5 pts after not doing much all year,
previously 4/5 weeks he scored a paltry 4 pts or less. Despite
this good game he remains DL18 out of 21 and barring injury it was
probably the only time of the season that he will see the starting
lineup for Dec, but he got the job done when it mattered.
ProfessorMJ lost one rank-point to Dec but strengthened their led
over rivals FE and Beaud in the standings with second place. D
Henderson led the way with 20.75 pts - he continues to impress
despite S Michel stealing some carries. Henderson has always
been injury prone and he missed one game so far this year, but in
the 5 games in which he participated his lowest score was 9.5 pts –
an excellent floor which puts him at RB5 in the league. With
Chubb injured, Conner had to start and did not do much with 6.25
pts. At WR Ty Hill had a big game once again with 18.75 pts
and for WR2 the coach went with M Evans for the first time but it
did not work out with Evans only catching two passes. Similar
to Dec, defense helped Prof finish near the top of the rankings this
week with excellent games from Rapp (17.5 pts), R Smith (12 pts),
and with Mosley on bye J Brooks subbed in nicely with 14 pts.
The only part of the defense which was questionable was the Bills
who lost on MNF and only scored 2.5 pts, almost letting D Henry
(Beaud) completely melt the large lead that Prof had built over
Beaud on Sunday. Rookie T Lawrence led his team to their first
win of the season against the Dolphins, his 15.25 pts were below his
projection but nonetheless at the rookie position any score above 15
pts will distance the competition. Lawrence remains ROO2
behind J Chase (Bas) however.
As mentioned above the BeaudoinBrothers attempted a comeback on MNF
with D Henry scoring 32 pts as this non-human machine continues
non-stop to destroy opponents, and padding his lead of points per
week to 22.8 pts vs 14.5 pts for J Taylor (FE) after 6 weeks, the
gap from RB1 to RB2 of 8.2 pts is almost triple the second largest
lead at any other position which is the Bills (Prof) 2.9 pts per
week ahead of the Saints (Dec). Unfortunately this week
Henry’s effort failed to have any impact on the standings.
With Zach Wilson on bye, Rondale Moore made his first appearance in
the Beaud starting lineup and had his second worst game of the
season with only 4.25 pts. With Ridley on bye, the Bros
started Claypool and M Pittman to take advantage of juicy matchups
against the Seahawks and the Texans but they both fell flat on their
face with 2.75 pts and 3.75 pts. Even though A Cooper on the
bench did not have a big game with only 7.75 pts but this coaching
call would have put the Bros in second place so it was costly;
coaching mistakes continue to mount for Beaud with 7th place in
coaching efficiency this year. Similar to R Moore, D Carr had
his first start of the year for Beaud with R Wilson sidelined and M
Ryan on bye, but the result was different than Moore. Carr
responded with 26.25 pts in an impressive road win against the
decent Broncos defense. On defense the Colts (18 pts) and
Logan Wilson (13 pts) did well but the Bros needed more than 7 pts
each from Garrett, Simmons, and L Collins to beat Prof.
The Admirals came out on top of a tight group in 4th to 7th place
with 137.5 pts and escaped with a finish in the top half of the
standings this week. K Murray led the way with 32 pts in a
destruction of the Browns. Murray threw for 4 TDs and no
turnover, although interestingly he fumbled 4 times, none of which
were forced fumbles by the Browns, and recovered all 4 fumbles
himself which therefore did not lead to any loss of points. At
RB A Jones scored a TD and 15 pts, but for RB2 the coach started
Gaskin because of the matchup with the Jaguars and the result was
poor. No matter how great the matchup is, Gaskin is awful, he
finished with 5 rushes for 9 yards and was even outrushed by
teammates M Brown (5-24) and S Ahmed (7-22). Even Tua Tago was
more productive than Gaskin with 3-22. Gaskin fell further to
RB29, while D Harris had a good game on the bench with 14 pts and
moved up to RB25. The main letdown of the week was Mike
Williams who only scored 3.25 pts, his second bad game in three
weeks after a hot start, it’s been boom or bust for him in the last
three weeks because the one good week in week #5 was fantastic with
32.25 pts; so despite 2 bad games in 3, the 3-week average is still
respectable. One main problem for Adm this week was LB because
B Martinez was injured, Oluokun was on bye, and Jaylon Smith
recently released by Dallas and signed by Green Bay was not been
fully integrated in the game plan for the Packers yet and scored a
goose egg. Thankfully it had no impact on the standings this
week because Adm edged other teams but was far away from 3rd with
little chance to get there even with an active LB.
FlyingElvis could not follow up week #5’s win with another top
performance – this time the team had to settle with 5th place.
L Jackson beat the Chargers but the Ravens mostly did so on the
ground, with Jackson ending the game with only 1 TD out of 4, and he
also had 2 INTs and only threw for 167 passing yards so he failed to
reach double digits. In that same game Ekeler was simply not
fed the rock, he rushed 6 times and only gained 7 yards, to go along
4 receptions for 48 yards and no TD. The lone bright spot on
offense for FE was J Taylor who scored 2 TDs and rushed for 145
yards. B Cooks was not bad with 13.25 pts but the coach should
have started Thielen instead who scored 23.75 pts. Defense was
definitely better than offense for FE and saved FE from a much lower
finish, with double digit scores from the Packers, T Edmunds,
Wagner, and D James. Only JPP was not great with 5 pts but
with Q Williams on bye and D Lawrence injured, FE had no other
choice at DL. FE was also hampered this week at the rookie
position because K Pitts was on bye. FE did not have the guts
to start R Bateman who was coming back from injury for his NFL debut
and he did not do much on the bench with 5.25 pts but it was
nonetheless better than starter T Marshall who was limited to 1.25
pts. Thankfully that call would not have made a difference
because Adm finished ahead by 4.25 pts so the 4 pt difference
between Bateman and Marshall would have been just a hair short.
WaxOnWaxOff finished in 6th place tied with OldNo7 this week, at a
time when Wax did not expect miracles due to not having a rookie to
start with all three being on bye which was a mistake by the GM
during the draft. After drafting Sermon and trading for T
Lance, Wax should have drafted any rookie not with a bye in week 6,
it’s not like E Moore was a cannot miss prospect that Wax had to
draft no matter what bye week (currently ROO23 out of 30).
Josh Allen made a good effort on MNF to save Wax from further pain
with a 33.75 pt game to beat his projection and catch up with
Old. On defense TJ Watt was the lone star with 23.5 pts while
others struggled, notably Budda Baker who has not been as dominant
as expected and scoring 2 pts in week #6 was bottom of the
barrel. He has now fallen to DB12 which is not far from
worthless considering he was at the top of almost all DB draft
lists. The main problem for Wax this week was RB+WR where both
Ju Jefferson and DJ Moore scored far less than their projection in
the single digits, and RBs Edmonds and Ro Jo were even worse, with
6.25 pts combined during Kamara’s bye week.
OldNo7 finished out of the red (well, halfway out of the red) for
the first time since week #1. With McCaffrey’s continued
absence and without a college player to start since Old only drafted
one and he was on bye, Old was handcuffed, and AJ Brown being iffy
Old started Antonio Brown and Di Johnson and both got the job done
with 20.5 pts and 13.75 pts, respectively. E Elliott failed to
reach 10 pts and backup Gordon was limited to 6 pts, Gordon was only
playing because both CEH and McCaffrey were out. Prescott had
a decent game to lead the Cowboys to victory but he needed OT to
beat his projection; before that, 2 TDs and 2 turnovers was not good
enough but with the TD in OT he finished with 26.5 pts which was
enough to beat Bas and tie Wax. On defense with the 49ers on
bye Old had to start the porous Chiefs defense but they came through
with 11 pts in a road win against WFT, the first time of the year
the Chiefs D scored more than 8 pts. They did not outscore the
49ers in any single week so far so Old will probably revert back to
the 49ers despite this improved effort from the Chiefs. At LB
it was a tale of two opposite stories, Alex Singleton scored 16 pts
and powered up to LB8 in the PQBFL, a more than satisfying result so
far. At the other end of the scale Schobert’s trade to the
Steelers has been a disaster for OldNo7, he was limited to 2 pts and
dropped to LB30 in the PQBFL due to his smaller role on the Steelers
defense unlike his centerpiece role in Jax previously.
The GloriousBastards’ see-saw season continued as the team finished
in the red every even-numbered week, while having significantly
better results in the odd-numbered weeks. This week Bas
finished 8th – the team’s worse finish all year. Ju Herbert
was powerless against the Ravens defense with only a short TD and
not even reaching 200 passing yards. The coach stuck with Ju
Fields as starting rookie instead of league-leading J Chase and this
week Fields outscored Chase for the first time of the season but
that’s because Chase scored his lowest all year at 9.75 pts; Fields
did not beat his own projection with 11.25 pts. Bas’ LBs woes
continued with D White and Cunningham underperforming yet again,
combining for 11.5 pts and further dropping to LB20 and LB28 in the
PQBFL. What a dismal showing for such an all-star pair.
Even the Broncos stunk this week with only 0.5 pt which is not
common for them. Only K Clark and M Fitzpatrick reached double
digits on defense. On offense the only player who showed up
was CD Lamb who had not done as much as the sky-high expectations
that Bas had when he was drafted in the 3rd round, but with 28.5 pts
this week including the game-winning TD in OT, Lamb climbed to WR8
which exactly matches the order of WRs in which he was
drafted.
The Ballers finished last for the third time of the season and are
sinking fast, with a combination of some injuries but that’s not the
whole story because the Ballers are 5th in injury points.
There has been some team missteps as well, for example similar to
OldNo7 drafting only one college player had ramifications this week
because the team had nobody to start. At RB S Barkley was
sorely missed, with backup Zack Moss doing next to nothing on MNF
with only 1.75 pt. Thankfully D Cook came back to the lineup
with 16.25 pts which was a needed relief but it was not
sufficient. The rookie position continues to be a problem,
with the coach being AWOL and leaving M Parsons in the starting
lineup. It worked fine for a while but Mac Jones has recently
outplayed Parsons; Jones is now ROO4 and Parsons ROO8. This
week Jones easily outscored Parsons 18.25 to 5 – this lineup change
would have avoided last place so Bas can be thankful. At LB
Kendricks is a pillar and he scored 10 pts, but for defensive flex a
more active team management might have resulted in S Barrett or H
Landry starting, but both were benched (9 pts, 15 pts) in favor of
Milano by default who only scored 2 pts. Offense was a mixed
bag, Gronk being out does not help and Tonyan only scored 2.5
pts. A Rodgers had a decent game with 24 pts and so did Diggs
with 19.25 pts but McLaurin only scored 5.25 pts and it’s becoming
clear he was better off with Fitzpatrick than Heinicke.
