Week #4
ProfessorMJ won for the second time in three weeks and is now only
one rank-point behind Dec in first place; in addition Prof is the
highest scoring team in the PQBFL so far and it was the third time
in 4 weeks that Prof scored more than 180 points. From last in
2020 to nearly first in 2021… so much for the grumblings that it is
not possible to make a drastic turnaround in the PQBFL! It was
mostly defense this week for Prof with the Bills completely shutting
down the Texans and scoring 25.5 pts without even having a defensive
TD. With the new scoring system rolled out in 2021 for team
defense, a shutout and only 109 total yards allowed, pays off big
time. Prof’s LB duo was prolific again with 17 pts from CJ
Mosley back from the 2020 sabbatical, and 14 pts from Roquan
Smith. After 4 weeks they are both sitting in the top 10 LBs
in the PQBFL, in fact Prof even has 3 LBs in the top ten because
backup J Brooks is ranked exactly LB10. DB T Rapp added more
of his own with 12 pts and he’s currently DB2 in the league after
his dreadful 2020 campaign where he lagged as DB21 out of 26 active
DBs. On offense Prof had some issues because nobody scored a
TD among Brady, Chubb, D Henderson, K Allen, and M Andrews, however
Ty Hill picked up the slack for all of them with a monster game
11-186-3 and 39.25 pts.
FlyingElvis rebounded from a poor week #3 with second place this
week and passed Adm and Bas in the standings to now sit in 4th
place. The coach made a last-minute change to start QB Hurts
instead of Cousins and it was the right move with Hurts easily
outscoring Cousins 26 to 9.75 pts. Without this change, FE
would have finished exactly tied with Dec in second place so FE
earned an extra half rank-point thanks to this call. FE’s RBs
were productive this week with 3 TDs between J Taylor and Ekeler and
both rushed for over 100 yards. WRs did not do so well however
with no TD from either Thielen or Cooks and they combined for only 8
receptions 93 yards together; FE’s best receiver was rather TE H
Henry who scored a short TD against the Bucs. Defense was
solid for FE with a double-digit score from everybody including the
Packers with 10.5 pts and the best of the bunch being Quinnen
Williams scoring 14 pts as a nice substitute for injured DLs D
Lawrence and JPP. At the college position Malik Willis
contributed 9.75 pts this week, he currently ranks COL3 in the
league but most importantly he has been moving up to the top of many
NFL QB mock draft lists for 2022 which bodes well for his value as a
saved player for FE. Many now see him as the best QB in the
upcoming draft, leaping over S Rattler (Beaud) and S Howell
(Prof).
The Decepticons finished in the blue for the 4th week and have
clearly been the most consistent team in the PQBFL so far which is
why they are still on top of the standings in what is starting to
look like a 2-team race with a growing separation between 1-2 and
the cluster at 3-8. Franchise player Mahomes saved the day to
cover up some mediocre games by WRs – Mahomes destroyed the Eagles
with 5 TD passes but the problem for Dec is that 3 of those TDs went
to Ty Hill (Prof); if Mahomes had been using other receivers it
would have benefited Dec in the standings. Dec’s own WRs C
Kupp and Lockett who had hot starts both underperformed this week
with 8 pts and 5 pts, respectively. Nonetheless Kupp remains
the top WR so far, one point per game ahead of Ty Hill while Lockett
slid to WR9, yet still worthy of WR1 status. Dec will need to
continue using both of them plenty because D Hopkins has been
falling out and did not do significantly better than Dec’s starters
with 4-67 and no TD this week on the bench. Dec’s best
receiver was actually N Fant who scored the only TD for the Broncos
this week in an otherwise poor offensive day for his team.
Rookie N Harris also scored a short TD to end up with a respectable
double-digit score but other than that he could not find much
running room with 62 yards on the ground. Both Dec’s LBs
scored 12 pts (D Jones and D Leonard) but the Saints laid a goose
egg at home against the lowly Giants and lost the game.
The BeaudoinBrothers scored a barely better than average 149 pts
this week and beat Wax and Ball in 5th and 6th place by a slim
margin. Kelce was the biggest reason why the Bros did not
compete at the top because he was left with crumbs during Ty Hill’s
feast, Kelce being limited to 4 receptions for 23 yds and no TD in
the KC offensive festival. Most other offensive starters were
at their weekly projection or slightly above, for example R Wilson
was decent with 24.75 pts thanks to 3 TDs but his yardage was very
low at only 149 passing yards. Both A Cooper and C Ridley
reached double digits but nothing fantastic, in fact Ridley watched
his teammate C Patterson score three times while Ridley simply had a
possession receiver role. The only bad game on offense was C
Carson who was limited to 2.5 pts and not because of fumbling – he
simply did not find any running room and the bad news is that backup
A Collins took over late in the game and did better than
Carson. The Bros might have to bring J Robinson off the bench
as he has been doing nicely as RB12 in the PQBFL despite the Jaguars
being winless. D Henry had a big game with 19.75 pts but
because he was playing the Jets that was already to be expected,
actually the offensive player who beat his weekly projection the
most was rather rookie Z Wilson who continued his boom/bust pattern
with the same score as D Henry, 19.75 pts and led the Jets to
victory.
WaxOnWaxOff finished 5th sandwiched between Beaud and Ballers in a
tight range in the middle of the rankings this week. This was
the second straight decent week for Wax after a horrible 2-week
start and Wax gained some ground over Adm and Bas to move closer to
5th overall. Wax’s top scorer of the week was DJ Moore who so
far this year has been Darnold’s favorite receiver and has made
Robby Anderson (Adm) expendable. Moore caught 8 passes this
week, two of them for TDs, and topped 100 yards. He has moved
up to WR4 in the PQBFL which is way ahead of expectations given he
was taken in the 6th round. Justin Jefferson has not done as
well but as WR8 in the league he’s been adequate and this week he
carried his weight with 16 pts. Kamara continued to be a
disappointment with 10 pts this week which is not all that bad but
more was expected especially at home against the Giants; Kamara is
languishing at RB15 which is not good enough for a franchise
player. The main problem has been that QB Winston is not using
Kamara as a receiver and Kamara has never been much of a runner
anyway; Kamara was not targeted this week and only has 10 receptions
in 4 games with both his TDs coming via the pass and none on the
ground. So the Saints can give the rock to Kamara 26 times
like they did this week, but it might not result in scores
anyway. In fact, this week even C Edmonds did better than
Kamara with 11.5 pts without scoring a TD because at least Edmonds
scored some points with receptions unlike Kamara.
The Ballers scored a respectable 146.5 pts this week but
unfortunately could not do better than 6th place. Part of the
problem was the benching of rookie Mac Jones who turned out to be
the centerpiece of the Pats offense against the Bucs, with a
whopping 40 pass attempts by Jones compared to only 8 rushing plays
by the entire team. Jones scored 17 pts on the bench while
starter Micah Parsons scored 8 pts, that call alone was the
difference between 3rd place and 6th place. McLaurin was a
major contributor this week with 25 pts, almost beating A Rodgers
who scored 25.5 pts in an impressive win against the Steelers
defense. Too bad A Rodgers did not throw much to his TE Tonyan
who was limited to 2.25 pts this week because Tonyan could only
convert 2 of his 7 targets into receptions. The Ballers would
have finished higher in the standings if it was not for D Cook being
gimpy, he was questionable and ended up being on the field but that
was not to the Ballers’ advantage because backup Zack Moss scored 10
pts on the bench compared to only 3.5 pts for Cook. Defense
was mostly up and down with double-digit scores from Kendricks,
Jenkins, and the Bucs D, but only 1 pt for Chris Jones and 2 pts for
Milano. It is worth noting that Jenkins is currently sitting
at DB1 in the PQBFL so he is turning into one of the better
defensive saved players this year.
The GloriousBastards resurgence was short-lived, after the week 3
win Bas fell back to 7th place, exactly the same outcome as in week
2. QB Herbert did his best on MNF for a comeback with 24.5 pts
and in fact it was enough to edge Adm, otherwise Bas would have
fallen in the standings and be trailing Adm instead of being two
rank-points ahead. A Gibson, D Waller, and DK Metcalf each
scored a TD but their stats were pedestrian so all of them were a
bit short of their weekly projection. The problem was mostly D
Swift whose usage has been very unstable by the Lions, this week he
only had 8 carries compared to 14 for D Williams (Dec). Even
more painful was CD Lamb who only scored 2.5 pts because of the
Cowboys’ newfound love for the ground game, running the ball 34
times compared to only 22 pass attempts by Prescott and Lamb
catching only 2 of Prescott’s meagre 14 completions. Defense
was mostly subpar for Bas with nobody hitting double digits and D
White being the best at 8.5 pts which as a 4th round pick is not at
all what Bas had in mind, in fact so far he’s even been outscored by
his older teammate L David (Beaud) who is averaging 9.3 pts per game
compared to White 8.9 pts per game, leaving White as LB20 in the
league. At the rookie position Bas was afraid of turnovers and
benched Ju Fields, even at home against a crap Lions defense.
Fields only had one turnover but he did not score so Bas’s call was
the correct one with J Chase scoring 9.75 pts vs only 4.5 pts for
Fields on the bench. If Fields cannot do better than 4.5 pts
at home vs the Lions, it’s becoming clear why the Bears coach is
saying Dalton will go back to his starting job when healthy.
The Admirals had their lowest score of the season with only 119.75
pts and finished 8th resulting in a significant fall in the
standings. Kyler Murray scored 26 pts which was almost as much
as all other offensive players combined if we count rookie Waddle
and college QB Crum (4.5 pts each), those two guys plus both RBs D
Harris + A Jones, both WRs D Adams + M Williams, and Kittle only
totaled 32.75 pts. M Williams got a reality check this week
with only 1 reception for 11 yards, Damien Harris had negative
rushing yards during his game, and A Jones lost a fumble to finish
with only 5.25 pts. Even D Adams was lukewarm with only 6-64
and no TD. All of them were outscored by kicker Tucker who
reached 10 pts and leads all kickers in the PQBFL so far this
season. On defense we can never say “lucky” when losing a 5th
round pick to injury, but Adm had not announced backup LBs so it
defaulted to LB Oluokun who scored 17.5 pts so if Adm suffers from
injury at LB, at least it was not this week. The WFT scored a
TD on a kickoff return for a total of 7 pts otherwise they would
have had a crappy overall score because they allowed 30 pts to the
Falcons who had not done much all year prior to this game. WFT
currently ranks dead last in the PQBFL out of 18 team defenses with
only an average of 3.3 pts per game which is a major disappointment
given how highly ranked they were in the preseason.
OldNo7’s injury-ravaged season continued this week with McCaffrey
missing the game but at least at the RB position Old escaped just
fine thanks to 16.75 pts from E Elliott and 14.5 pts from CEH.
However Old paid the price at DB by only having 2 DBs on the roster
and stroke of bad luck hit, both getting injured at the same time so
Old scored zippo at the position. However the coach can also
be blamed by starting old man Roeth over Prescott which was a huge
mistake, Prescott crushing Roeth 35.5 to 9.5 pts which would have
helped Old finish 7th rather than last. WR Dionte Johnson came
back to health this week and did well with 21.5 pts but Godwin was
less impressive with only 5.75 pts while teammate A Brown did a bit
better with 10 pts on the bench. That’s pretty much the only
other option Old had at WR because AJ Brown missed the game to
injury in what would have been a juicy matchup vs the Jets, and J
Landry + T Higgins were also out to injury. Old also had 2 LBs
out to injury this week which forced the coach’s hand to start two
DLs and neither Buckner or Hubbard got the job done, no sack and
only 9 pts combined. All that means Old leads the PQBFL in
injury points so far but dead last in the standings by far with
three consecutive last places so it might be a long year for Old.
