Week #15

The GloriousBastards bounced back from a 3-week stretch where they finished no higher than 6th and won week #15.  The return to the top was in part because rookie Herbert had scored on average less than 11 pts during those three games but he scored 28.25 pts this week to lead all Bas starters.  Second best was Brady at 26 pts who was not going anywhere and had the Bucs behind 17-0 at halftime but he had an excellent second half to lead the Bucs to victory.  RB Elliott missed the game due to injury but it might very well be that a healthy Pollard is better than a banged-up Elliott.  Pollard started and scored 24 pts plus Bas earned the valuable injury points for Elliott so it might have been the best outcome for Bas.  J Jacobs might not be 100% but he handled a heavy workload with 26 carries although his yards per carry average was below 3.0 this week; thankfully he scored a TD to beat his projection with 14.5 pts.  The Seahawks offense keeps getting worse every week and DK Metcalf has taken a hit; he scored only 7 pts this week.  Diggs picked up the slack with 18.25 pts even though he did not score a TD – he catches so many balls that he can beat his projection even without a TD.  TE Waller was actually the best receiver of the week for GB with 23.5 pts as he continued to dominate targets with Mariota at the helm instead of Carr, and also scored a TD.  Defense was not dominant for Bas and almost cost the team first place this week with almost all starters scoring less than projections, the only one who got the job done was D Davis with 6 tackles 9 assists.

The BeaudoinBrothers beat Dec by two spots this week to increase their lead to three rank-points in the standings and edged closer to the PQBFL title.  The Bros starters had several juicy matchups this week and most of them took advantage.  First off K Murray seems to be over his shoulder ailment and the Eagles offense played well enough so that Murray had to continue throwing.  Murray was victim of 2 turnovers but his 4 TDs and 400 passing yards were sufficient to break the 30-point mark and easily beat his projection.  D Henry also had an easy game against the Lions and finished with over 150 yards from scrimmage; he only scored one TD because Tannehill stole a couple and rookie RB D Evans (Dec) stole another one late in the game when Henry was on the bench as the game was already out of hand, otherwise Henry could have had a better score than 19.5 pts.  In that game AJ Brown did not need to be very involved but he scored a short TD to at least reach the double digit mark.  TE Kelce had another standard day at the office: 8 more receptions and another TD for 18.25 pts.  If he was a WR he would rank WR3 in the PQBFL – the only two WRs to outscore him so far are D Adams and Ty Hill.  The Bros almost beat Bas this week entirely because of defense.  The Ravens had an easy game against the Jaguars and scored 14 pts without even scoring a defensive TD, and LB D White got a 3-game sack for the second time of the year.

The Ballers played troublemakers by beating Dec and finished in the blue for the first time since week #10.  The remainder of the season will be almost meaningless for Ball because they are mathematically assured to finish ahead of FE in 7th place, and 6th place is almost impossible because Ball trails Adm by 16 rank-points and is unlikely to have the tiebreaker.  As mentioned above Tannehill had a great game with 5 TDs and no turnover to lead Ball with 39.75 pts this week.  Stars D Cook and D Hopkins also carried the load with 18.25 pts and 21.5 pts, respectively, while RB2 and WR2 were iffy once again due to lack of roster depth with N Hines scoring 4.5 pts and S Watkins being limited to 7 pts.  TE Gronk was also not at his best with 4.25 pts so lots of position players on the Ballers’ squad were outscored by kicker Zuerlein who reached double digits.  After an excellent week #14 the Bears D fell back to mediocrity with only 1 pt but at least they beat the Vkings on the road which was a decent outcome for them, if not statistically.  Both Ballers’ LBs had good games with Wagner being the best with 14.5 pts and T Davis not far behind at 13.5 pts.  At the rookie position the Ballers benched Swift which was a mistake with Swift outscoring starter Z Moss 13.75 pts to 6.75 pts but it did not have an impact on the standings.

The Decepticons underperformed their elevated projection with 142.75 pts this week and now feel some urgency to beat Beaud next week to keep their hopes alive because they are in danger of getting knocked out.  Mahomes had a challenging matchup against the Saints defense which roughed him up for most of the day but Mahomes still found a way to score 3 hard earned TDs and almost matched his projection with 24.25 pts.  Tua Tago also did not have the best of matchups against Belicheat and he only threw for 145 yards but two short rushing TDs salvaged his day, and similar to Mahomes he almost reached his projection with 14.5 pts.  As it’s been the case many times this season, defense saved Dec from a worse day with another sack for DB J Adams and 13 pts, a sack for D Jones as well for 15 pts, and a forced fumble for D Leonard and 15 pts scored like D Jones.  However the surprise was the Rams defense who did not create a turnover against the Jets and shamefully lost the game with only 1.5 pt.  This went along so-so games on offense from Seahawks key players C Carson (5.75 pts) and T Lockett (5.5 pts) but at least TE Hurst scored a TD and reached double digits for only the 4th time of the year.

OldNo7 was expecting Wax to beat them this week but with Wax’s stumble on MNF Old finished just ahead and moved to 2.5 rank-points behind Wax in the standings so they still have a chance to finish 4th if not 3rd but also has to worry about Adm only 2 rank-points behind.  The best player of the week for Old was surprisingly D Buckner who sacked D Watson three times for 20 pts.  This was Buckner’s best game of the year and he quietly took over as the PQBFL’s top DL spot, slightly ahead of M Garrett (Beaud) and A Donald (Old).  On offense M Gordon was efficient with 81 total yards and 2 TDs, finishing with 17.75 pts which was unusually ahead of A Rodgers who quickly scored 2 TDs in the first 16 minutes of his game against the Panthers but once the Packers were ahead 21-3 Rodgers took things easy and barely did anything and finished the game with only 143 passing yards for 16.75 pts, far short of his projection of 24.5 pts.  Ty Hill scored another TD for 13.5 pts but co-WR K Allen is playing banged up – he would be better off staying on the bench.  K Allen only caught one short pass this week for 1.75 pts while three backup WRs on Old’s loaded WR corps scored 15 pts and above (J Landry, Antonio Brown, and Dionte Johnson).

WaxOnWaxOff had a chance to finish 4th and maybe even 3rd but on MNF the Steelers defense allowed 27 points to the Bengals while TJ Watt scored in the single digits and below his projection which dropped Wax to 6th place instead.  Wax therefore surrendered all ground gained on Bas last week and more, so now Wax is tied with Bas in third place in the standings.  L Jackson scored 28.75 pts to lead Wax this week which was his third straight game with 28 pts or more so these three weeks are almost the single best three of the season for him, the exceptions being weeks #1 and #4 where he scored 28.75 pts and 29.5 pts which is more or less the same as his score this week.  Wax’s coach is being rewarded for sticking with him despite his mid season struggles, in fact after week 11, Roeth was leading L Jax by almost 3 pts per game but since then he’s the one who has been going downhill and hitting rock bottom this week with only 5.5 pts on the bench against the Bengals.  At RB L Bell benefited from CEH’s injury to score 12.25 pts and Kamara scored equal to his projection with 13.75 pts.  It was a bit better for Wax at WR for Wax entirely because Ridley had a big week with 24 pts; the WR2 starter was S Shephard who only scored 6.25 pts while the coach made the mistake of benching regular starter DJ Moore who had a decent game with 13.5 pts which cost Wax 5th place.  After a huge game by rookie C Young last week, things were back to normal with only 3 pts which made a big difference for Wax between the strong week 14 and the below average week 15.

The Admirals finished in the red for the second straight week which has virtually eliminated the team from contention.  Adm would need to finish first twice and Beaud last twice in addition to beating the Bros by a combined 150 total points in two weeks which is close to impossible.  Realistically the best Adm can hope for is to move up from 6th to 3rd in those final two weeks.  Adm’s duo of Vikings receivers were a bit off again this week, perhaps not so much Jefferson with 13 pts but Thielen’s 7.5 pts was not enough, and even more so franchise player D Adams only having 42 receiving yards and no TD in a rare bad day by his standards with only 9 pts.  It was the first time since week #6 that Adams did not reach 10 pts.  Instead the Packers ran the offense via A Jones who finished with 158 yds from scrimmage and a short TD for 18 pts.  C Hyde had to start for Adm because of the injury to D Harris and Hyde was not nearly as busy as A Jones: Hyde only carried the ball twice and caught two receptions but he made the most of his opportunities with a 50-yard TD and he scored 13.25 pts.  Defense was porous for Adm this week, notably the Vikings scoring a goose egg against the Bears and defensive stars J Bosa and B Baker only scoring 4 pts each, not to mention another goose egg from Maxx Crosby.

FlyingElvis had a brief revival in weeks 13-14 in part because J Hurts is now FE’s starting rookie and Hurts showed that he belongs in the league, scoring more than double his previous season best, this time he scored 36.5 pts against the Cards which is a great score for any QB let alone a rookie.  You would think with such a big game FE would be at least in the middle of the results this week but it was not so because of poor play from almost every other position.  RBs Sanders and Ekeler only scored 14 pts combined which was a big drop from the week before which brings them back to disappointing mode.  They rank RB12 and RB15 at the moment so they will hold some value in 2021 but not first and second round pick status which is where they were drafted.  And what to say of JJSS?  This loser is putting on a ridiculous show in pre-games with his antics on team logos but the turd does not get the job done when it counts.  This week he only caught three short passes and even fumbled one of them away; he was a big reason why the Steelers lost.  Perhaps he should be more concerned about his WR19 rank which is right outside starter material and not very good for someone drafted in the 4th round.  One rare FE player who has done very well this year is TJ Hockenson who ranks TE5 in the league but this week he was not at his best to say the least, with a similar game as JJSS because Hock only caught two short passes and fumbled one of them.

ProfMJ had another terrible week by finishing below 100 pts for the 8th time and also finishing last for the 8th time of the season.  Similar to FE, how can Prof have such an awful week with Josh Allen scoring as high as 38.5 pts?  The rest of Prof’s starters scored a paltry 59.75 pts combined, WR McLaurin being the only one with a double digit score and barely so, and still below his weekly projection.  Prof’s entire defense including the Titans scored only 18.5 pts which is a score which was exceeded by a handful of individual defensive players this week, let alone a group of 5 starters.  Rookie Mims was a non-factor again with only 3.75 pts, Herndon was barely better with 5.25 pts, and the Jets even won that game, so go figure.  RBs were equally catastrophic with only 5 pts from M Davis and Drake only scored 3.25 pts and was outplayed by his teammate C Edmonds (Bas) who scored 10.5 pts.  During the Rams’ loss to the Jets, C Kupp was as useless as the rest of his team with only 6.75 pts to drop to WR24 in the PQBFL which is not great for a 5th round pick and does not bode well for his 2021 status.  I guess it’s slim pickings on Prof’s roster so he might get cut nonetheless.  The only good news for Prof this week was that Prof earned 225 injury points compared to 177 for Ball so Prof took a more comfortable lead and has a higher chance to land the coveted first pick overall next year.
