Week
#14
The BeaudoinBrothers got out of the 6-week funk with their second
win of the season and captured back first place in the
standings. Having the easiest of matchups for Beaud starters
made a big difference for example R Wilson had an easy game with 4
TDs against the Jets and D Henry scored over 30 pts against the
Jaguars. In the same game AJ Brown also scored a TD for 20.5
pts. T Kelce did not have the same cake-walk matchup but he is
virtually matchup-proof and scored 19.75 pts against the
Dolphins. The other starting two receivers M Thomas and rookie
Aiyuk did not score but caught 8 and 10 balls, respectively.
While offense was strong for Beaud this week, defense was subpar
with scores below projections for everybody except L David who
scored 10.5 pts, barely above his projection. On TNF JJIII had
not started the week well for Beaud with only 5 pts and Garrett did
not close the week well either with only 3 pts in a rare game where
he could not get to the QB. But the worst was the Saints who
only scored 0.5 pt and lost against rookie J Hurts (FE) in a
surprising loss.
WaxOnWaxOff was having another average week until L Jackson woke up
with 34.5 pts on MNF for his best game of the season. His
excellent performance could not have been more timely given the very
close rankings this week – Wax was projected to finish 6th before
MNF and ended up second. It was not easy however, in fact with
only two minutes left in the game, Wax was still behind Dec, Old,
and FE with L-Jax having a running day once again and not even 100
yards passing, plus he was in the locker room for most of the 4th
quarter due to a cramp. Then he came back on the field with
two minutes left on 4th down with the task of keeping the Ravens
alive when backup QB McSorley went down to injury and responded with
a 44-yard strike to M Brown (Beaud) for the go-ahead TD before
leading the team to a FG drive with two seconds left to win it after
the Browns had tied the game. The rest of Wax’s offense was up
and down, RBs were fine with 12 pts from RoJo and 13.75 pts from
Kamara, and Ridley did better than both of them with 21 pts.
However N Fant scored a goose egg and WR D Samuel got injured on the
first play of the game to finish with only 0.25 pt. The most
surprising contributor of the week was rookie C Young who had a
Burrow-level of scoring with a 47-yard TD plus a sack and a forced
fumble for a total of 26 pts.
The Decepticons were in danger of finishing in 6th place and it was
all on Chubb’s shoulders on MNF to beat the very tight pack of Old,
FE, and Bas to secure those important three rank-points. Chubb
needed to beat his projection and season average to finish ahead of
those three teams and he delivered under pressure with 2 TDs and
over 100 yds from scrimmage for 19.5 pts and salvaged an ok week to
stay within striking distance of the Bros rather than fall too far
behind in the standings. Mahomes did not have his best game
ever especially in the first half he was erratic; he finished the
game with 3 INTs but lead the Chiefs to the win with two TDs.
His opponent on the field was Dec’s rookie Tua Tago who had a better
game statistically with 3 TDs and one INT for 26.5 pts. Dec
could have beat Wax if the coach had started the Rams defense which
was benched on TNF and scored 21.5 pts. The 49ers started
because they were playing the weaker offense of Washington and they
had a good game with 12 pts but the main difference is that the Rams
scored a defensive TD while the 49ers did not. The rest of
Dec’s defense was not as good as usual with D Leonard being the only
one to crack double-digits, and barely so with 11 pts. JJ Watt
was the main laggard with only 3 pts. The other problematic
position for Dec this week was TE where Hurst was limited to a
single catch for only 1.25 pt and Hooper was injured so there was no
other possible help.
OldNo7 tied FlyingElvis in 4th place and moved ahead of Bas in the
standings and is now tied with Adm in 4th overall. Old made
the tough choice of starting the Colts defense against the Raiders
instead of the Bills against the Steelers and this cost 1.5 rank
because the Bills outscored the Colts 16 to 8. During the
Colts game DL Buckner did not do much and he was limited to 4 pts
but at least in the Bills game starting DB Poyer was more active
with 13.5 pts. On offense it was a fairly standard week for
Old: A Rodgers was the team leader with 34.5 pts, WRs were
productive as usual with K Allen scoring 17.5 pts and Ty Hill doing
even better with 23.5 pts, while RBs were the laggards as been the
case many times with only 9 pts total between M Gordon and J White -
McCaffrey cannot come back soon enough for Old. Rookie CEH was
his usual self with decent yardage (91 total yards) but he simply
does not score enough TDs to be considered an elite rookie; he
failed to find the end zone once again and finished with 8.5 pts,
right in line with his projection. For a first round pick this
is not enough, in fact so far this year he’s been outscored by two
other rookie RBs J Taylor (FE) and A Gibson (Adm) not to mention 4
rookie WRs, 2 QBs, and a LB. A couple of things which slowed
Old down unlike recent weeks is that E Engram had his worst game
since week #1 with only 2.75 pts and starting kicker Z Gonzalez was
injured. Who would have known that a kicker injury could have
such an impact on the standings; backup Gould started but he had his
lowest score of the year with only 1 pt.
FlyingElvis finished in the middle three spots for the second
straight week and with just a little more help could have been in
the blue for the first time of the season. J Hurts started for
the first time as the Eagles QB and he had a decent game against the
Saints defense with 17.25 pts. He was probably the logical
rookie to start in the circumstances but backup J Taylor on the
bench exploded for 26.75 pts which would have put FE in third
place. Another mistake was starting M Jones instead of JJSS
with starter Jones scoring only 6.25 pts compared to JJSS on the
bench with 14.75 pts. JJSS is not having a fantastic year as
WR16 in the PQBFL but that’s still far better than M Jones as WR30
so it sounds like the coach was worried about JJSS playing against
the Bills defense. A third mistake was to start the Pats
defense against the Rams instead of the Chiefs against the
Dolphins. The Pats scored 5.5 pts while the Chiefs had a TD
and safety for 12.5 pts. FE’s best player of the week was M
Sanders who finally got the job done with two TDs including a long
one of 82 yards and a total of 24.25 pts. It was only the
second time of the season that Sanders scored more than 11.25 pts in
a rough season to say the least for FE’s first round pick.
Co-starter RB Ekeler also had a decent game with 11 pts and his
return to health has coincided with FE achieving better results
recently. TE Hockenson also contributed with 13 pts and while
he’s not as flashy as the league’s top three TEs Kelce, Kittle, and
Waller, Hockenson is quietly TE4 in the PQBFL by taking over that
spot in front of M Andrews.
The GloriousBastards finished at the bottom of the tight pack from
2nd to 6th place with only 11.5 pts separating five teams.
This was the third straight below average week for Bas who is seeing
their season go down the drain and the team now down to 6th overall
in the standings. The team’s highest score was from Diggs on
SNF who scored 22.5 pts and almost brought Bas back to the top 3 but
his 10-130-1 performance fell short to beat Old and FE.
Nonetheless he climbed to WR5 in the PQBFL and will for sure be cut
from Bas’ lineup next year unlike what happened this year, when
Diggs barely got any votes except from the FE general manager.
The other Bas starting WR DK Metcalf will most likely be cut as
well; he was less productive than Diggs this week with 14 pts but he
has almost the same average per game at 14.6 compared to Diggs’
14.5. RBs were a drag this week for Bas with Elliott and Josh
Jacobs both bothered by injuries and they only scored 10.75 pts
combined. Brady was put back in the starting lineup after his
bye and he beat Goff on the bench but Brady’s 19.5 pts was short of
his projection and also short of starting caliber QB. TE
Waller had another busy day with 7 receptions but this time he did
not score a TD so his 10.75 pts were below his projection of 13
pts. Defense was a mixed bag for GB this week with the Broncos
scoring on a punt return but otherwise did not create a turnover so
they scored 6.5 pts which was not that much given the TD. LB R
Smith had a much better game with 8 tackles, 4 assists, and 2 sacks
for 21 pts while the duo of Saints defenders C Jordan and D Davis
was quiet with 8.5 pts combined.
ProfessorMJ finished 7th which is better than most weeks but with
FE’s recent improvement Prof has almost no chance of finishing 8th
and their only interest is to pay attention to the race to the top
for injury points. Prof earned 152 injury points this week
while Dec is getting healthier with 104 pts so Prof jumped ahead of
Dec, however the Ballers earned a bit more than Prof with 157 so
they are now #1 with 1711 just a hair in front of Prof at
1710. Most likely those two teams will draft 1-2 next
year. Prof’s best game of the week was Gesicki who scored
20.25 pts in a losing effort against the Chiefs but he got hurt and
will start contributing to injury points starting next week.
One player on Prof’s roster which exists only due to injuries is M
Davis and he’s continuing to benefit from McCaffrey’s absence with
18.75 pts this week but he’ll be gone from Prof’s roster next year
and with Prof doomed to finish last, his scoring at the moment is
all for nothing. The RB which Prof needs to do well to improve
the 2021 saved team is J Conner but he continues to struggle, this
week was a new low with 0.5 pt which is unacceptable for a first
round pick. Prof has useful WRs for 2021 but this week they
all underperformed with starters C Davis only scoring 1.5 pt and J
Crowder 2.25 pts. Defense was not impressive again except for
the Cowboys who played the weak Bengals without their QB which
resulted in 20 pts. Coincidentally that was the Cowboys’ total
score combined from the first 13 weeks of the season so in just one
week they doubled their total from 20 to 40 pts.
The Ballers finished in the red for the third straight week with a
poor 108.5 pts but played troublemakers by beating Adm. The
biggest surprise of the week was the rebound of the Bears defense
who was dominant early in the year but had faltered since week
#8. However this week they kept the Texans in check and scored
19.5 pts which was their best score of the year, far exceeding the
11 pts they scored in week 6. The rest of the defense was
below average notably only one point from C Campbell on MNF when the
Ravens could not stop the Browns all game long. C Newton did
exactly the same: only one point, in yet another game where he was
god-awful. However the coach can be blamed for not benching
him in favor of Tannehill particularly since Newton was playing the
Rams and Tannehill was playing the Jaguars not to mention that
Tannehill ranks QB8 in the league so far compared to Newton who is
QB23 and worth no more than a bye-week filler. Franchise
player Cook had another game of 100 yards rushing and a TD which we
are accustomed to and he will most likely return in 2021 as the
franchise player once again since he’s been one of the few bright
spots for Ball this year. The other starting RB Hines is only
playing because Mixon is injured and he’s been decent many weeks but
this week was barely ok with 75 total yards and no TD for 6.25
pts.
The Admirals finished first, second, and first, between weeks 11-13
and after having some hope for the PQBFL title they crashed and
burned in week 14 with their second last place of the season with
only 105 pts. Adm is now 11 rank-points behind first place and
looks unlikely to win, probably the best they can hope for is catch
Wax to finish in 3rd place. Not only the Vikings offense did
not do much against the Bucs, but also the lone passing TD went to
Irv Smith (FE) not the duo of Adm receivers J Jefferson and A
Thielen so those guys were a letdown with only 12.5 pts
combined. RBs were also bad with A Jones not scoring a TD
because A Rodgers threw for three and stole one TD on the ground
away from Jones who finished with only 6.25 pts. D Harris is
not a worth starting RB as the league’s 23rd best RB and this week
he was held to 5 pts although in his defense he was playing the
Rams. While A Jones could not score a TD, D Adams was the
recipient of one of Rodgers’ three TDs to end the game with 20.75
pts which is even higher than his elevated projection and season
average. He continues to lead all WRs in the PQBFL,
comfortably ahead of Ty Hill (Old). On defense Adm should have
started the Eagles defense against the Saints, not that the matchup
was great but they scored 6.5 pts compared to the Vikings who
started on the road at Tampa Bay and the Vikings only scored 1
pt. This single coaching call would have pulled Adm out of
last place and into 8th place instead.
