Week
#12
After a dry spell in weeks 10-11 where Dec only scored 221.5 pts in
total, the ‘Cons exploded for almost the same score but in only one
week, with 193 pts to easily win week #12 far ahead of Adm for Dec’s
first win since week #3. Dec now has a firm grip on second
place and only 3 rank-points behind Beaud in first place with 5
weeks to go and the team getting healthier. Dec was supposed
to have the best defensive team in the PQBFL and it took a while to
get there but this week Dec was clicking on all cylinders. The
Rams, JJ Watt, and Deion Jones all scored a TD, D Leonard scored
more than all of them with 19.5 pts because of lots of tackles and a
sack, and J Adams was the “worst” of the group with 6 tackles 3
assists 1 sack and 2 QB hits for 14 pts. The ‘Cons scored 82.5
pts on defense alone, almost as much as the total team score of
106.25 pts in week #11. Offense was not bad either with
Mahomes taking control of the offense with 37.5 pts, C Carson came
back from injury after missing 4 weeks and scored double-digits, and
Chubb got his best game since back from injury three weeks ago with
19.5 pts. The only weak spot was receivers R Woods, Lockett,
and Hurst combining for only 22.5 pts not to mention Tua Tago who
missed the game to injury and rookie WR Pittman was quiet with 3.25
pts.
Earlier this year, when the Admirals won week #1 and #7, they could
only follow-up with mediocre performances of 6th place in week #2
and 5th place in week #8. This time was different; after
winning week #11 Adm had a strong 164 pts and are now only half a
rank-point behind both Bas and Wax so third place is within striking
distance. D Watson continued on his hot streak with 41.5 pts
on Thanksgiving day while J Bosa was the defensive leader with 24.5
pts thanks to three sacks and 5 QB hits. Rookie J Jefferson
was excellent with 22.5 pts in the Vikings’ win with 2 TDs, filling
the void for Thielen missing the game due to covid.
However rookie Gibson did even better on the bench with 30.25
pts. Those two Adm rookies are now ranked ROO3-4 in the PQBFL
and are the best non-QBs behind Herbert (Bas) and Burrow (Wax) which
is promising for Adm’s saved team in 2021. While D Adams had a
fine game with 15 pts, the replacement for Thielen at WR was C Kirk
who could not do better than 3.75 pts. RBs also left to the
desired with 3.75 pts from D Harris and 7.5 pts from A Jones.
In the Packers’ game it was a mild concern that J Williams had the
same number of carries as A Jones and Williams scored the TD plus
the fact that A Jones did not catch a pass in that game.
The BeaudoinBrothers could not top 140 pts for four straight weeks
between weeks #8-11 but had their best week since week #7 with 158.5
pts and third place. As the season is getting closer to the
end D Henry is starting to overwhelm defenses as he does every year
including 2019 when he helped the Bros to the PQBFL title.
This week going against the tough Colts defense Henry was merciless,
scoring 3 TDs before halftime and if it was not for Tannehill
stealing a 1-yard score in the last minute of the second quarter, he
could have had 4. High production from D Henry normally means
AJ Brown takes a back seat and indeed he was not overly involved in
the offense with only 4 catches but one of them was a TD bomb and he
also had another score on a fluky onside kick return at the end of
the game. M Thomas was equally non-involved in his game with
only 4 receptions as well but he did not score a TD so his final
score was again disappointing with only 6.5 pts. At least
Beaud benefited from covid luck by starting the Saints defense in
that game, and they only allowed 3 pts and 112 yards of total
offense. The main problem for Beaud this week was QB where
both R Wilson and K Murray have slowed down considerably in the last
few weeks. Thankfully Beaud started the correct QB Wilson with
13.5 pts as Murray scored only 5 pts on the bench, but it’s not
exactly comforting that Wilson is now a game manager with the
Seahawks’ recent defensive improvement and RBs Carson (Dec) and Hyde
(Adm) returning from injuries. At RB Mostert came back from
his own injury and scored a TD on exactly the same week that Gurley
missed a game due to his troublesome knee in what could have been a
nice output for Beaud given that the Falcons scored 43 pts on the
Raiders. Mostert still has room for improvement however
because his yardage was pedestrian with 12-43 and J Wilson stealing
lots of carries. On defense the Bros were hampered by M
Garrett missing another game due to covid, Josh Allen is on IR, and
backup DL Fowler only scored 1.5 pt.
OldNo7 finished 4th this week with a respectable 149.5 pts but most
of the production came from only two players: A Rodgers scored 31
pts and Ty Hill exploded for a godly 49.25 pts and he could have
scored more if he did not slow down in the second half of his
game. K Allen had a decent 13 pts but was less of a focus of
the Chargers’ offense with the return of Ekeler (FE). TE
Engram was almost as good 10.25 pts which was only the second time
this year where he scored double digits. The problem for Old
this week was RB where McCaffrey is irreplaceable: he scored between
19.25 pts and 22.5 pts in the three games when he was active this
year but he missed his 9th game this week. Old should have
started J White this week who scored 2 TDs on the bench but instead
inexplicably went with Breida who sucked again with 1.25 pt.
RB Gordon could not get on track because the Saints could key on him
with the Broncos having no other useful players on offense and he
finished with only 3.5 pts. Individual defense was not bad for
Old this week with double-digit scores from Poyer and Schobert,
while DL Hubbard almost reached that threshold with 9 pts. The
problem was the Colts defense getting destroyed and finished with
-2.5 pts and they no longer occupy the PQBFL’s top spot at the
position. They now stand behind the Steelers (Wax).
WaxOnWaxOff was a laggard until a late week push that included lit
candles in the hope that the Steelers game would not be cancelled
and their prayers were answered. In the last game of the week
both TJ Watt and the Steelers defense scored exactly 16 pts to power
Wax slightly ahead of Prof and FE to finish in 5th place. Wax
moved back into a tie with Bas in third place in the standings but
now has Adm breathing down their neck. It’s not going to be an
easy final stretch for Wax without Burrow and this week as a
replacement C Young had a sack but not much else for 6 pts.
The best score of the week was A Donald with 16.5 pts which means
the top 3 scorers were all on defense for Wax this week. The
best offensive game was 15.5 pts from RoJo who scored another long
TD in the Bucs’ loss to the Chiefs. Kamara continued his
underperformance without Brees (Dec) with only 5.25 pts with L
Murray (Bas) easily outrushing him 19 to 11 carries and Kamara only
catching one pass for negative yardage. Kamara dropped to RB4
in the PQBFL behind D Henry and the outlook for the next few weeks
is not bright. Things are not much better at WR where DJ Moore
continued his seesaw season with only 7 pts this week to move back
down to WR25 in the PQBFL which is not what Wax expected from their
early 4th round pick in August. Ridley had a fine game with
13.5 pts but one would have guessed a higher output given that the
Falcons destroyed the Raiders and Ju Jones (Dec) being out to
injury.
ProfMJ scored 128.75 pts this week which was their second best
output of the year but fell only 0.5 pt short of beating Wax and
could not do better than 6th place because week #12 was the third
highest scoring week of the year for the PQBFL as a whole.
Things started on the right foot for Prof on Turkey day with 29.5
pts from W Fuller until the turd got suspended for the rest of the
season due to drug violations. With Conner out due to covid,
Prof needed Drake back in the lineup and he delivered with two short
TDs for 17.75 pts. Replacement RB M Davis did not do as well
with only 15 rushes for 55 yds plus three receptions for 24 yds
without a TD in a road loss in Minnesota. QB Josh Allen was
preparing for a shootout against his young counterpart Herbert but
the Bills’ task turned out easier than expected and after J Allen
scored a TD early in the 3rd quarter to take a 24-6 lead he did not
need to throw much for the rest of the game so he finished with 11.5
pts, a low score which was partially affected by two
turnovers. Defense was nothing special this week again for
Prof with all 5 starters coming up short of their projection with
the best being Hicks at 8.5 pts and DB Walker the worst with only
one point. Rookie WR Mims plays on a bad team and he missed
lots of games to injury to start the year but at least he has slowly
been trending up and scored his best result of the season with 8.25
pts. The bigger concern for Prof however is that his outlook
for 2021 is not particularly enticing.
FE has shockingly not reached 125 pts in any single week all year;
FE scored 124.75 pts this week which was actually the team’s highest
score all season and FE could not finish higher than 7th
place. FE started the wrong QB with Cousins scoring 28.5 pts
on the bench and starter Bridgewater being limited to 14.75 pts as
those two guys were playing against each other in the same
game. Ekeler came back from injury after missing 6 games which
was a boon for the FE offense but first round pick Miles Sanders
stunk with only 3.75 pts most of which was because of a 2-point
conversion; he was otherwise useless with only 22 yards from
scrimmage. It was old man A Peterson on the bench having a
nice Turkey day with 2 TDs while rookie Swift (Ball) was out due to
a concussion. FE could have beat Wax and Prof on the last game
of the week but Boswell missed an extra point and DL Heyward only
scored 6 pts so just a bit more was needed for FE to finish two
ranks higher. Heyward was actually the weakest link on FE’s
defense this week because the team’s LBs did well with 15.5 pts from
Kendricks and 12.5 pts from Edmunds, respectively. At WR M
Evans had a good game with 17.5 pts because he scored two TDs but M
Williams was a non-factor in his game with only 5.25 pts.
The GloriousBastards had been improving recently and were slowly
moving towards the top with four straight top 4 finishes until they
got stopped in their tracks in week #12 with a dreadful 106.25 pts
for 8th place. Bas dropped to 3rd in the standings behind Dec,
and OldNo7 is now only 4 rank points behind so Bas who had as good a
shot as any for the PQBFL title as of last week, are now looking at
6th place being a distinct possibility if they don’t pick up their
game. QB Brady scored 24.5 pts which was higher than his
projection but most of it was in the 4th quarter after the Chiefs
already had a comfortable lead. DK Metcalf was the only other
bright spot for Bas with 18.75 pts but he did not score a TD.
The rest of GB’s team was dismal, starting with RB Elliott who lost
one more fumble and finished with 0.25 pt and dropped to RB15 in the
PQBFL. The loss of Prescott and the injuries on the offensive
line can only go so far to explain his level of play, particularly
the fumbles. Josh Jacobs also lost a fumble and finished with
only 1.5 pt in a game where he got hurt and did not finish the
game. WR Diggs caught 7 passes but could not top 40 yards and
was held off the end zone, while TE Waller was even worse with 4-23
and nothing else. In a week where nothing was going well for
GB, kicker Badgley missed an extra-point to finish in negative
territory and the Broncos defense had no help from their offense
with their backs constantly against the wall and could not do better
than 3 pts. Even rookie Herbert had a below average game by
his standards with only 14.5 pts which was his worst game of the
season other than his 12.25 pts in week #3.
The Ballers got crushed with a season-low and league-low 64.75 pts
this week, far behind everyone else and with Old pulling away more
than 10 rank-points ahead in the standings it looks like Ball will
finish the season in 7th place. TE Gronk was the top scorer of
the week with 11.25 pts and everybody else scored in the single
digits, with the only other player who could beat his projection
being kicker Zuerlein with a modest 7 points. QB Newton was
horrible with 0.5 pt and he was the wrong QB to start; Tannehill was
far better with 20.5 pts despite playing the Colts defense. In
that game, RB Hines did not do as well as expected even with J
Taylor (FE) out to injury and Hines was limited to 7.75 pts.
But the one who laid an egg big time was D Cook who lost a fumble
and did not score a TD for a total of only 3.75 pts while his
projection was not far from 20 pts which is also roughly his season
average (20.9 pts per game before this week). Cook had not
scored less than 9.25 pts all year and now we can see a trend
emerging with Cook scoring only 28.25 pts in his last three weeks
for an average of less than 10, far below his average of 23.3 pts in
the first 9 weeks of the year. WR D Hopkins did not do much in
New England with 7.75 pts which was his 3rd single digit game in the
last 4 weeks, the lone exception being the game where he caught the
game-winning hail Murray pass to beat the Bills in week #10
otherwise it would be a pretty horrible 4-week streak. WR
Watkins missed 5 games to injury and came back right on time this
week to start and score 5.75 pts; the other Ballers WRs P Williams
and Edelman were injured, and AJ Green scored a goose egg on the
bench without Burrow so Ball did not have other viable options than
Watkins. On defense the Bears were humiliated by the Packers
and finished with -2 pts, C Jones only scored 2 pts at DL, the two
Ballers DBs Simmons and Jenkins combined with only 8 pts, and LB
Wagner had a season-low 7.5 pts.
