Week #11

After a rough 3-week stretch from week 8-10, the Admirals are back on top with a win this week by edging the GloriousBastards by 3 pts.  The Admirals became the first team to win three different weeks this season and took back 5th place in the standings in front of OldNo7 and are now within striking distance of Wax and Dec.  After a minor hiccup last week, D Watson is back on his good run since the Texans coach was fired with 29.25 pts this week and he now stands at QB7 in the PQBFL.  The Packers had a tough matchup against the Colts defense but A Jones and D Adams were both able to score a TD each although they fell a bit short of their weekly projections.  A Thielen, the other member of Adm’s WR duo which is the best tandem in the PQBFL, did even better than D Adams thanks to a juicy matchup at home against the Cowboys and he took advantage with 8-123-2 for 24 pts.  However he found out after the game that he has covid which will slow down Adm considerably in the next couple of weeks.  One player who might benefit from his absence might be rookie J Jefferson who started for Adm this week and rewarded the coach with 14.25 pts; on the bench rookie A Gibson was not bad either with 13.5 pts.  On defense Adm was not stellar but acceptable due to 14 pts from Justin Reid, 10 pts from Jaylon Smith, and 10 pts from the Eagles defense as well.

The GloriousBastards’ long climb to the top continued with a 4th straight top 4 finish, this time Bas finished second and overtook Dec and Wax in the standings to take sole possession of second place overall.  Ju Herbert had a great matchup against the Jets at home and he even beat his elevated projection with 30.75 pts which a score that even the top veteran QBs in the league would take on any given Sunday.  At WR Bas was missing Diggs who was on bye but backup T Boyd filled in nicely with 9-85 for 13.25 pts which was even better than DK Metcalf who scored 12.25 pts.  Metcalf did score a TD but he was limited to only 3 receptions because teammate Lockett (Dec) had 9 receptions which took away some targets from Metcalf.  During the late Sunday afternoon Raiders game, a double-digit score by Josh Jacobs (10.25 pts) and even better Waller 16.25 pts, put GB in position to win this week.  GB only needed 15 pts from Brady on MNF but Brady threw a last minute INT to drop Bas 3 pts which was exactly the difference between first and second.  Those turnovers are becoming a recurring theme for the old QB who is underperforming Bas’s rookie QB by a decent margin.  On defense Jayon Brown got injured during the game which might have cost Bas first place because he only scored 3 pts before going out.  However the rest of Bas’ defense was strong with 16 pts from C Jordan, 13.5 pts from D Davis, and 9 pts from J Bates who had an INT.

OldNo7 finished third this week with 150 pts, not close to either second or fourth place.  The team leader this week was WR K Allen who had a monster game with 16 receptions for 145 yards plus a TD for 26.25 pts.  Ty Hill also scored and caught 11 balls for 21 pts so this WR duo is getting closer to Adm’s WR duo as they rank WR2 and WR3 in the PQBFL.  There were several other contributors for Old on offense notably M Gordon who scored 2 TDs and RB J White who was active with 6 receptions for 64 yards, not to mention A Rodgers adding three more TDs against the Colts although he lost a fumble.  Rookie CEH had his best game since week #1 with 17.25 pts as the Chiefs reconnected with the run and CEH gave no room to L Bell (Wax) to take on a greater role with the Chiefs.   Defense was more problematic for Old however with the Colts having their hands full with the Packers and finished the game with 5.5 pts.  With B Martinez on bye, Old started 2 DLs Buckner and S Hubbard both of which did nothing special with 3 pts and 4 pts, respectively.  Poyer was also on bye and backup T Mathieu was equally mediocre with 4 pts at DB.  The only decent game was Schobert who scored 13 pts as the lone starting LB.

The BeaudoinBrothers finished in the middle 3 spots in the standings for the fourth straight week with 4th place, far behind Old but also far ahead of Wax, Dec, Ball, and FE.  The week did not start too well for Beaud with K Murray playing through a shoulder injury on TNF after getting hit in the first half and he was limited to 20 pts as he barely ran, and this was significantly below his projection due to the excellent matchup against the porous Seahawks defense.  In that same game the coach started kicker J Myers after growing tired of Butker’s weekly missed extra points but this time it was Myers who missed an x-pt.  Most of the scoring for Beaud this week came at the 11th hour of various games for example Kelce scored the game-winning TD with 30 seconds left, and AJ Brown scored a TD with 2 minutes left when he was having a weak game prior to that, and since the Titans game went in OT the Bros can consider themselves lucky that D Henry scored the game-winning TD on a 29-yard run in extended time.  WR M Thomas has been having a shitty season so far with a bad week #1 following by several missed games and after his return he was worse than Beaud’s backup WRs with 7.5 pts in week 9 and 3.25 pts in week 10.  However the coach stuck with him with T Hill as the new Saints QB and Thomas delivered with his best game of the year with 14 pts despite not scoring a TD.  On defense the coach benched the Saints against the Falcons and they scored 15.5 pts while the Ravens scored a goose egg against the Titans so this decision cost the Bros 3rd place.  At DL it was not better with Josh Allen getting injured during the game and finished with zero; he was starting because M Garrett caught covid.  On MNF, L David, D White, and JJIII were all going at it and combined for 28 pts which was more or less in line with their projections but since the Bros were pretty much locked in 4th place it did not matter much.

WaxOnWaxOff finished in the middle of the pack in 5th place by coming out on top of a very tight group from 5th to 8th with only 3.25 pts separating 4 teams.  While Wax might have rejoiced of this result, it was not so because the roof collapsed on their head with second round pick Burrow being lost for the season by destroying his knee immediately after the PQBFL trade deadline closed.  Wax will have to do with a couple of defensive rookies for the rest of the season so their hopes of a PQBFL title pretty much vanished when Burrow exited.  Wax was projected comfortably ahead of FE, Dec, and Ball but on MNF A Donald scored a goose egg and RB RoJo did almost nothing with 2 pts which meant Wax played with fire but held on to 5th place by a thread.  Another bad news for Wax was that Kamara might not be as productive with T Hill at QB than with Brees.  The Saints easily beat the Falcons but Kamara had 13 carries to L Murray’s 12 and Hill’s 10 carries, and most disturbingly Kamara was only targeted once by pass and did not catch it.  Thankfully he scored on the ground but without aerial production he will be hard to count on until Brees comes back unless Hill uses him more.  RB Lamar Jackson can also be blamed for Wax’s low score as he underperformed his projection by 8 pts with less than 200 yards passing and one more INT in the Ravens loss.  He had many chances to lead the Ravens to victory but he could not get the job done.  At WR DJ Moore had a good game with 14.25 pts but C Ridley left to the desired with 9.5 pts despite Ju Jones (Dec) being affected by an injury during the game.  The best score of the week for Wax was 18 pts from the Steelers who suffocated the Jaguars offense and picked off their backup QB 4 times.

The Decepticons stumbled to 6th place tied with the Ballers and lost second place overall to the GloriousBastards.  It could have been worse for Dec as they were only 3 pts from finishing 8th instead but the Rams did just enough on MNF by intercepting Brady twice, including one INT to end the game with a final score of 6 pts.  Dec would have probably beat Wax if Ju Jones had not been banged up all game and having to come in and out several times; he finished with only 2 receptions for 39 yards.  TE Hurst could not benefit from more targets with Ju Jones fading out, and Hurst finished the game with a goose egg.  Dec’s best scorer this week was Mahomes who scored 21.75 pts and it took the very late TD pass referenced above to Kelce to achieve a respectable score.  Lockett easily beat his projection with 18.25 pts but the rest of Dec’s lineup was subpar, starting with the Browns RB tandem where Hunt scored a short TD but only had 21 yards from scrimmage and Chubb had over 100 yds rushing but no TD so he was also short of his projection.  It was even worse for Tua Tago who was benched due to ineffectiveness and finished in the single digits.  Individual defense was problematic starting with star DB J Adams who only scored 4 pts, his season low.  LB J Baker also scored his season low with only 2 pts, and it was almost the same for D Leonard who was limited to 8.5 pts.

The Ballers scored 106.25 pts to tie the ‘Cons which brought to an end the team’s hot streak from week 8-10 where Ball had not finished lower than third.  Ball fell further behind Old in 6th place and has work to do to catch up.  Due to the close rankings, Ball was punished heavily for only drafting one team defense and not trading for one during the season because the Bears were on bye; with Wax only 0.5 pt ahead this week, it would have been easy for the Ballers to get 1.5 additional rank-point.  RB Hines was not as productive as he was recently and took a back seat to J Taylor (FE) who had 22 carries compared to Hines’ only 6 carries for 2 yards.  D Cook scored another TD and rushed for over 100 yards but given that the Vikings threw more than usual in that game, his 15.25 pts were short of his projection.  D Hopkins also did not have a miracle catch up his sleeve at the end of the game this week and he finished with only 7.5 pts.  At QB the Ballers went with Newton over Tannehill because the latter was playing the Ravens; Newton beat Tannehill by a hair with 20.5 pts mostly because he did not turn the ball over but the Pats lost anyway as he only threw for one TD.  At TE the Ballers should have started Gronk; he was pedestrian with 2-25 but it was better than J Cook with only 1 reception for 6 yards and it cost the Ballers 5th place.  Another issue which hurt Ball this week was rookie Swift who missed the game due to a concussion while Z Moss was on bye so Ball had to reach down to their least useful rookie Gross-Matos who scored 4.5 pts, which is below what Swift and Moss normally score.  The Ballers earned a whopping 217 injury points this week and will possibly overtake ProfMJ soon in that regard for the PQBFL’s second pick overall in 2021 while Dec remains firmly first.

FlyingElvis not only is having a tough season but is even losing the close contests such as this week finishing only 3.25 pts behind Wax but it resulted in being 3 rank-points behind.  There were several things that went wrong this week, first off the coach finally sent rookie Higgins in the starting lineup and it had to be the week that Burrow got hurt, while J Taylor outplayed Hines (Ball) for 9.5 pts on the bench compared to 5.25 pts for Higgins.  DB J Peppers was on bye, forcing K Joseph in the lineup and he only scored 4 pts.  The Pats defense was dreadful against the Texans without a sack or turnover and finished with -2 pts while the Chiefs on the bench did better with half a point.  However the main guilty party for FE this week was M Sanders who is now healthy and was expected to produce in a matchup such as the Browns but it was not meant to be.  His total yardage was not too bad with 81 yards but he did not score and he hurt his team by losing one fumble.  One of the few bright spots for FE this week was QB Cousins who toyed with the Cowboys defense with 3 TDs, over 300 yds passing and 26.5 pts.  M Williams did not do as well with 14.5 pts although it was a decent score and turned out to be the right move to make when the coach benched M Evans at the last minute.  On defense LB Kendricks was the leader with 13.5 pts but FE needed just a bit more to make a difference in the standings.

ProfMJ finished last for the 4th time in 6 weeks and now trails FE by 9 rank-points with 6 weeks to go so it is looking unlikely that the team will finish anywhere but last, especially since FE has beat Prof for 4 straight weeks.  No miracles were expected this week with Josh Allen on bye; D Carr was actually not bad with 22.5 pts and he almost beat the Chiefs.  Prof benched both rookie Raiders WRs which was the right thing to do because 21 of 23 Carr’s completions were to receivers other than Ruggs and B Edwards; ProfMJ started Mims who was the best of the bunch but 6.5 pts was far from dominant in a game where the Jets struggled to move the ball.  The result was far more painful for J Crowder who only caught one pass in that game compared to 3 for Mims so Crowder got crushed by C Kupp’s 19.25 pts on the bench.  This call alone was the difference between 9th place and 5th place for Prof – a huge swing.  Mike Davis joined the team as a replacement player and slightly beat Drake on the bench by scoring a short TD.  J Conner was a laggard again with 99 yards from scrimmage but no TD so 8.25 pts was below expectations especially in an easy matchup.  On defense the DB position has been a problem for Prof all year and this week was no exception with T Walker scoring only one point, S Williams zero, and Rapp missed the game to injury.
