Week #7
The Admirals are back where they started the season, becoming the
first team to win two weeks this season. Since hitting rock
bottom in week #3 with last place, Adm has been trending up with
5th, 4th, 3rd, and now 1st. Adm has moved up to 3rd place in
the standings tied with Dec. Adm was heading for a mediocre
week until SNF when star DB B Baker was all over the field with 19
pts and he almost scored a TD. With an average of 13.8 pts per
game so far, he is the highest scoring defensive player all
positions combined. His teammate C Kirk scored 2 TDs to
contribute 16.75 pts which was almost double of his weekly
projection, and in that same game, RB Hyde took advantage of
Carson’s (Dec) injury to get more play time than normal and scored
13.25 pts which was adequate replacement for A Jones who was
injured. Because of Jones being sidelined, most of the Packers
offense went through D Adams who had a monster game with 13-196-2
for a total of 35.75 pts. At the rookie position, A Gibson was
playing the Cowboys and nobody was surprised that he had his best
game of the year with 16.5 pts against that Swiss cheese
defense.
The BeaudoinBrothers got beat at the finish line by Adm when JJIII
failed to reach double digits on MNF which was required for Beaud to
beat Adm. The Bros allowed Adm to catch them on SNF because R
Wilson uncharacteristically threw 3 INTs including one in OT so if
that game had ended in regulation the result might have been
different. However the coach can be blamed for starting the
wrong QB again because K Murray beat Wilson by 7.75 pts which would
have been enough for first place. One of the key reasons why
Beaud had a strong week was LB D White who sacked D Carr three times
for a total of 26 pts and White took over the top LB spot in the
entire PQBFL after this stellar performance. M Garrett also
added two more sacks to take over the top DL spot in the PQBFL over
A Donald (Wax). The Ravens might soon catch up with the Colts
for the best team defense in the league but they were on bye this
week and the lowly Saints were poor in their absence with only 2.5
pts against the Panthers.
WaxOnWaxOff got beat handily by the Bros for the second straight
week but once again only lost a single rank-point in the
standings. The only real consequence is that it’s looking less
likely now that Wax would hold the tie-breaker because they trail
Beaud by almost 50 total points. With L Jackson on bye, Wax
was satisfied escaping with this result although more could have
been expected from Stafford who was playing the porous Falcons
defense but it took a last minute TD for Stafford to finally get on
the scoring sheet; prior to that the Lions only had one rushing TD
and a few FGs. The top Wax player this week was rookie Burrow
who threw for 4 TDs and over 400 yards against the Browns but two
turnovers slowed his team down and he finished the week with 29.5
pts. On defense Wax has seen better days, LBs Cunningham and
Warner were ok with 11 pts and 12 pts but the Bucs D only scored 5
pts and so did DB Edmunds. On MNF A Donald was relatively
quiet although he did register half a sack.
The Decepticons were headed for a disastrous week with several
underperformers until T Lockett bailed their ass on SNF with a
humongous 15-200-3 fireworks for a total of 43 pts. The Cards
defense preferred to shut down DK Metcalf (Bas) instead of Lockett
and they successfully did so, in fact they stopped all Seahawks
receivers because other than Lockett’s 15 receptions, no other
receiver got more than three. The Rams defense was also rock
solid on MNF which allowed the ‘Cons to edge Old and Bas at the
finish line and salvage a decent week with 4th place. Things
were not going well for Dec on Sunday afternoon notably Mahomes only
throwing 1 TD and 200 yards for 12.5 pts which was less than half of
his projection. Dec was handicapped this week with three
rookies on bye and two injured, and the situation was not a lot
better for individual defenders with five on bye or injured and only
the bare minimum of 4 which were active. To add insult to
injury, L Collins who was replacing injured J Adams got injured as
well after scoring 11 points so now Dec needs Adams to come back
ASAP.
OldNo7 was another team with an incomplete lineup this week, having
two DLs on bye and one injured. Other defenders Poyer, B
Martinez, and Schobert did well with 33 pts combined and the Bills
defense was solid with 15 pts as they neutralized the lowly Jets who
had less than 200 yards of total offense. On offense Old
continues to have issues at RB with injuries but at least Gordon
came back this week, the problem is that he lost two fumbles.
Newly acquired J White could not do anything despite the Pats
playing from behind so unfortunately no garbage time scoring for him
this time, as Newton (Ball) appears to be a different player since
he was out with covid. Most of the offensive scoring for Old
was A Rodgers who rebounded from his awful 0.25 pt in week #6 with
30+ pts this week which is more like his standard game this
season. K Allen also had a strong afternoon with 10-125 to
easily beat his projection but he did not score a TD which was the
only thing missing for him to have a huge week. A Robinson was
far more quiet with 4-70; his yawner on MNF was the reason why Old
did not beat Dec.
The GloriousBastards had a painful 6th place and slipped to 5th
place in the standings with OldNo7 only 2 rank-points behind.
Who would have thought that Bas would finish in the bottom half with
Brady and Herbert throwing for a combined 9 TDs, no turnover, and a
total of 83.25 pts? This is insane, 9 TDs on any given week is
excellent, and week #7 was not high scoring in fact it was slightly
below the season average in the PQBFL so far, and Bas did not even
have an incomplete lineup unlike Old and Dec. The problem is
that the 11 other starters for Bas all scored about half their
projection or worse, the only exception being R Smith on MNF who
finished the game with 7 tackles 1 assist and gave a glimmer of hope
late in the game to beat Old until A Robinson caught his 4th pass
late in the 4th quarter to put Bas away. Other than Smith, the
other three defenders Jordan, D Davis, and Bates scored less than
Smith alone with only 7 pts. The Chargers defense was not
particularly impressive against the Jaguars with 29 pts allowed and
only 2 pts. On offense, Elliott is now useless without
Prescott even though the Cowboys play ultra-conservatively and feed
him the ball even when we are down by several scores; this week
Elliott did not fumble but his O-Line was terrible. Josh
Jacobs found a way to do even worse than Elliott with 10 rushes for
17 yards and the passing game did not save him with only 3
receptions for 14 yards.
The Ballers finished in the red for the third straight week and are
now entrenched in 7th place in the standings. Not much success
was expected this week with all RBs injured or on bye, except for K
Johnson which was acquired specifically to have an active RB this
week but he scored a goose egg. Thankfully Newton was benched
with his -4.25 pts and starter Tannehill was decent with 20.5 pts
against the tough Steelers defense. At WR Edelman has been a
disappointment this year at WR42 in the league; this week with only
2.5 pts he was even worse than his already low average of less than
7 pts per game. With Ertz injured Ball has decent backups and
J Cook scored a short TD for 9.5 pts and Gronk was even better on
the bench with 12 pts. Defense was not a problem for the
Ballers this week with Chris Jones who scored 8 pts, Bradberry 10
pts, Wagner 11 pts, and Holcomb who had been a laggard so far this
year finally came out of his shell against the Cowboys with an INT
and 15 pts. Even the Bears D was not bad with 9.5 pts on MNF
despite losing to the Rams. Another modest good news was that
rookie Swift scored for a second straight game and finished with 9
pts this week. His problem is that old man A Peterson (FE) had
more carries than him and also Swift only had 3.0 yards per carry
against the weak Falcons defense.
ProfessorMJ finished in the red for the 5th time in 7 weeks with 8th
place this week. Josh Allen seems to have slowed down
considerably after a hot start in the first 4 weeks where his worst
game was 25 pts and he ranked QB3 in the PQBFL at that time.
His average in the subsequent three games has been less than 15 pts
per week; this week he had his worst game of the season with only 12
pts and that was against the Jets so needless to say he came up way
short of his projection and he fell to QB6 in the PQBFL. At RB
Conner had over 100 yards from scrimmage but he did not score, and
Drake did not do much before going out with an injury so Prof will
be thin at RB for the upcoming few weeks like many other PQBFL
teams. Prof has more WRs to choose from than RBs and many of
them are decent starters, this week Golladay had 6-114 which was
fairly good and McLaurin scored on a 50+ pass play. TE
continues to be a problem for Prof however, another week, another
goose egg as Herndon was shut down, the only good news is that
backup Sternberger’s single catch was a TD but he was on the bench
this week. Defense was sub-par with all 4 starters coming up
lower than projections and everything has already been said about
the Cowboys who scored 0.5 pt this week against a weak offense,
while the Titans did better with 3.5 pts on the bench because they
were playing the Steelers.
FlyingElvis was not having a great season prior to this week, but at
least they had scored over 100 pts every week and had not finished
last so far, but the bottom fell out this week with a dreadful 75.75
pt performance. For starters, with Ekeler and Sanders out, FE
started Singletary and Peterson and they both sucked for 6.25 pts
combined while Fournette scored 8 pts by himself on the bench.
At WR starters M Evans and M Williams combined for a paltry 4.75 pts
while JJSS who had been doing nothing so far, finally woke up on the
bench with 13.25 pts. So FE’s 4 starters at the core positions
of RB and WR totaled 11 pts which was almost topped by the freaking
kicker Boswell and his 8 pts. TE Henry was not much better
than the rest of FE’s offense with 4 pts, while Bridgewater was the
only bright spot with 22 pts against the Saints, besides rookie
Higgins who also had a good game with 14.75 pts. Defense was
equally awful as offense with the Pats getting blown out at home and
only scored 0.5 pt with the backup Chiefs scoring 18.5 pts on the
bench, and the four individual starters averaged less than 4 pts
each this week, J Collins being the least bad with only 6
pts.
