FlyingElvis
won for the second time of the year with a crushing 187.5 pt performance
in what turned out to be the lowest scoring week of the PQBFL season so
far. The Pats defense continued to feast on bottom of the barrel
opponents by scoring over 20 points for the 4th time in 7 weeks, this
time with 25.5 pts without even scoring a TD. However the key
player for FE was A Rodgers who had been fairly pedestrian prior to
this week; he almost doubled his previous high (23.75 pts in week 4)
with 46.75 pts against the Raiders. This game alone catapulted
Rodgers to QB7 in the PQBFL but he still trails Prescott at QB5.
This was a somewhat ballsy coaching move given that D Adams (Adm) was
out due to injury so Rodgers did not have all his weapons. At RB
the coach started L Bell and perhaps it was intended to be insurance
for starting the Pats D, but the coach left Fournette on the bench who
easily outscored Bell 13 to 6.25 pts. Fortunately FE finished so
far ahead of Bas that it did not matter. FE’s LBs added the final
exclamation mark with 32.5 pts combined from E Kendricks and B Wagner.
The GloriousBastards finished second this week, broke the 3-way tie and
took sole possession of 4th place in the standings, now significantly
ahead of Adm and Old who had bad weeks. Goff has had ups and
downs this year but the coach had the courage to start him despite his
negative score in week 6 and Goff delivered with 25 pts on the road
against the porous Falcons defense. Elliott (17.25 pts), M Thomas
(15.5 pts) and Diggs (13 pts) all marginally beat their weekly
projection to help Bas to their acceptable finish this week but it is
worth noting that Bas finished so far behind FE and so far ahead of Dec
that none of these games mattered all that much individually.
That includes the coaching call of starting Mack (4.5 pts) instead of
Ekeler (18.25 pts) which turned out to be inconsequential. It is
interesting that as soon as we thought Ekeler was useless with the
return of Gordon (Sun) and H Henry (FE), it was proven wrong this
week. Ekeler only had 7 yards rushing but got over 100 yards
receiving and a TD. On defense Bas welcomed the return of
high-priced D Leonard who had not played since week 2. Leonard
came back with a bang, scoring 15 pts including an INT to help the
Colts beat the Texans in a key divisional game.
The Decepticons only scored 129.75 pts this week but it was enough for
3rd place and most importantly they beat the BeaudoinBrothers to
modestly narrow the Bros’ lead in first place. Other than the
week 5 fiasco, Dec has been able to keep their head above water by
finishing in the top 3 five times out of the last six weeks, but there
are clouds on the horizon due to injuries. First off Mahomes got
injured after scoring only 9.5 pts which robbed Dec of any chance to
compete at the top this week, and this affected Kelce as a consequence
and he was limited to 8 pts. As if it was not enough, COL QB Tua
Tago also got hurt during his game and left after scoring only 0.25
pt. Dec’s backups at QB and COL are not that great given that
Brees and Costello are also injured and L Jackson has been traded away
so Dec will have to rely on Brissett and D’Andre Swift for a few
weeks. Fortunately Brissett has been able to hold his own
recently and he ranks QB8 in the PQBFL so far, so he has shown that he
is starter material. This week the main contributors for Dec to
beat Beaud were the Rams defense who dominated the Falcons with 21.5
pts and D Cook who scored 2 TDs and 22.25 pts. It should be noted
that Dec could beat Beaud due to a meaningless last minute TD by the
Rams defense on a fumbled punt which partially negated Dec’s bad luck
with injuries this week.
The BeaudoinBrothers scored below 150 pts for the first time of the
season with a disappointing 122.25 pts. The Bros have been fairly
injury-free this year, ranking last in injury points but this week was
a reminder that it’s not smooth sailings when injuries start to
hit. Similar to Dec, A Thielen got hurt early in the game after
scoring a TD so he finished with only one reception and that affected
Beaud this week. Also star DB John Johnson III is now out for
several weeks due to injury and backup Amos was fine with 11 pts but J
Reid was not with only 1 point. Reid had to start as defensive
flex because both LB Schobert and LB L David were on bye. In
addition to Schobert being on bye, the rest of Beaud’s Browns crew was
on bye as well including N Chubb and M Garrett and backup DL Ingram was
injured too which left the Bros with a goose egg at the DL position
after not being able to pull off a trade before Sunday which had an
impact due to the close finish against Dec. At QB R Wilson
struggled all day against the Ravens and only scored 12.25 pts and
nonetheless moved up to PQBFL’s top scorer so far with an average of
25.3 pts per game.
The Ballers only scored 103.25 pts but it was unusually good enough for
5th place, which was the first time of the year that Ball finished out
of the red which was significant relief. After being without a QB
last week, Josh Allen came back from his bye and did just enough to
beat the Dolphins at home with 23 pts mostly scored in the 4th
quarter. Nobody else on Ball’s team scored more than 11.5 pts,
with the only notable games being M Jack (11.5 pts), Ju Simmons (11
pts), and Zuerlein (10.5 pts). Ju Jones also scored double digits
but 10.5 pts on his part is below projections and not enough to carry
the team as a franchise player. To Jones’ defense, M Ryan’s
injury did not help matters. The Ballers’ struggles at RB
continued this week with Breida only scoring 3 pts and Mixon hitting
rock bottom with only 4 yards from scrimmage in a game that was within
reach for the Bengals until late in the 4th quarter. Mixon rushed
10 times for a total of 2 yards (!) which even a QB could have done
better with sneaks. At least Mixon scored on a 1-yard reception
to account for 25% of his yardage on only one play. In that same
game T Boyd was not overly impressive with 5.75 pts and Eifert was not
either with 3.5 pts. However other WR options were limited for
Ball due to Josh Gordon and S Watkins being out due to injury.
The Admirals seem intent to take the “average” label away from FE by
finishing 6th which is the sixth consecutive week that Adm ends up
between 4th and 7th place. Adm failed to reach 100 pts for the
first time this year and they have now scored only 201.25 pts in the
last two weeks combined. First off Adm does not have much of a QB
to speak of, this week Garoppolo scored 3.5 pts and did not score a TD
in a defensive struggle in Washington. Gurley came back to health
and scored a TD, but Ingram had his worst game of the year with 5.25
pts because L Jackson did most of the damage on the ground. D
Adams missed the game to injury and was benched, but the coach slept at
the wheel and started Kirk who was also injured, leaving 9.25 pts on
the table from K Stills which cost Adm one rank. At TE Olsen was
on bye and M Andrews also had his worst game of the year (3.75 pts)
like Ingram, for exactly the same reason. On defense LB B
Martinez was everywhere with 8 tackles 8 assists and 19 pts, but the
same cannot be said of the Vikings D who won their game despite bad
defense and they finished with zero. Rookie Metcalf was also
quiet with 4 receptions and he fumbled one of them.
OldNo7 broke the cycle and had a bad week in an odd-numbered week by
finishing 7th. The Bills defense was expected to destroy the
Dolphins but it took a late kickoff return for a TD for the Bills to
reach 10 pts, otherwise they played with fire and almost suffered a
disaster and shame of losing against the lowly Dolphins at home.
The Bills allowed 21 pts and 381 yds which was quite a surprise.
Old also had lots of subpar games, for example E Engram only catching
one short reception when he’s supposed one of the top TEs in the
league. How about Wentz’ 5.25 pt game against the Cowboys?
Wentz and his team got blown out easily. At RB Old started T
Coleman (5 pts) and K Johnson (1.75 pts) while leaving S Michel on the
bench with his 3 TDs against the Jets. Rookie D Montgomery has
been a disappointment this year and his negative score this week is a
good example of that. At least Old was able to avoid the cellar
thanks to 19.25 pts from D Hopkins and the second best score for Old
was from freakin’ kicker Maher with 12 pts.
The SunshineBoys could not do better than 8th and were unable to build
on the more respectable results in weeks 5-6 when the team avoided the
red. QB D Watson only scored 11.75 pts against the Colts due to 2
INTs which sunk Sun. At RB, after starting backup RB L Murray 5
times in the first 6 weeks this year when Kamara was healthy for the
Saints, for once Kamara was out to injury but Sun started the safer
bets M Gordon and D Freeman which did not turn out well. Gordon
and Freeman combined for a paltry 6.25 pts which is awful for guys
drafted in the 3rd and 4th rounds. Backup Murray scored 22.5 pts
on the bench in Kamara’s absence, which is more than double Kamara’s
own average this year before his injury. At WR Sun had three
players on bye so they had no choice but to start M Gallup and he only
scored 4.5 pts. The best score for Old was from the Jaguars
defense which scored a TD and caused 4 turnovers against the Bengals,
and the second best score for Old was Ji Graham who scored a rare TD
and finished with 12.25 pts.
WaxOnWaxOff’s euphoria from the week 6 win did not last – the team
crashed to last place this week with a season-low 80.75 pts. The
only good news of the week was Ty Hill’s return to health and he scored
14.5 pts but without Mahomes in the next few weeks his outlook is
modest. All six RBs on Wax’s roster scored a total of 8.25 pts,
one being injured (Kamara), two were on bye (R Jones and J Conner), R
Penny sucks so much that he did not touch the ball all game, and
starters Jo Howard and Ad Peterson underperformed relative to their
already low projections. Even starter L Jackson underperformed
despite a stellar 116 rushing yards – that was the only saving grace
because he needs more than one TD to be worth the trade. At TE
what to say of Z Ertz? As a third round pick he’s been an awfully
expensive TE given that he ranks 9th so far in the PQBFL and this week
he easily got outscored by K Rudolph on the bench 13.75 pts to 3.75 pts
and also outscored by teammate Goedert (Old) who scored 11.25
pts. On defense the Eagles had a big game in week 5 when they
scored 31 pts, but they have now reverted to their previous suckness
with a couple of 1-point games in weeks 6-7 which is about the same as
they did in weeks 1-4 when they scored 5 pts total during that
span. The rest of Wax’s defense was so-so; A Donald had a sack
and a forced fumble but CJ Mosley is still not 100% recovered from his
injury and only got 3 assists.
