FlyingElvis
bounced back from a rough opening week with a win in week #2 coming out
on top of a very close pack with only 11.75 pts separating first and
fifth place. In a week where coaching decisions were critical, FE
made the right choices which was the opposite of what FE’s coach did in
week #1. The coach had the courage to bench A Rodgers at home
against the Vikings and instead started Dak Prescott against the
hapless Skins and it paid off with Prescott outscoring Rodgers 30.5 pts
to 15.75 pts. This call alone was the difference between 1st and
5th this week. The Pats defense did even better than Prescott
with an eye popping 33.5 pts domination of the Dolphins offense, thanks
to 2 TDs, 4 INTs, 7 sacks and a shutout with less than 200 total yards
allowed.
The Decepticons had a chance on MNF to finish first but DB J Adams
disappointed with only 5 pts and because of him Dec almost even
finished 3rd by beating Bas by only 0.25 pt thanks to a tackle with 6
minutes left before being benched following two straight penalties just
one minute later. Similar to FE, Dec had some question marks
after week #1 but after this week they are back to key contenders for
the PQBFL title and in the thick of the race with Beaud and Adm.
Mahomes was unstoppable again with 42.75 pts and he continues to crush
his even elevated weekly projections. One of his TD passes went
to Kelce which added double points to Dec and Kelce finished with 19.25
pts. Any week where the Chiefs score big, Dec will most likely
end up near the top of the standings just from Mahomes and Kelce alone,
which actually tends to happen most weeks. At RB it looks like D
Cook will end up being a steal in the 2nd round and he will possibly
finish in the top 5 RBs in the league because the Vikings cannot do
anything except run. Since Dec missed first place by a small
margin it is worth noting that having injured kicker Badgley is very
bad timing considering that Tavecchio was waived by the Falcons so Dec
did not have anybody to start, and injury points for Badgley were
slim.
The GloriousBastards finished in the middle of the tight pack at the
top with a respectable 3rd place. Bas’s coach hesitated at QB and
made the right call with Brady (26.75 pts) instead of Goff (16.25 pts)
and it was the same at RB where Mack was benched (5.25 pts) in favor of
Ekeler (13 pts) which paid big dividends to beat Adm and Beaud.
The other starting RB was Elliott and he is knocking off some rust with
a 15-pt effort this week. Bas was also boosted by defense thanks
to a double digit score from all 4 defenders C Jordan, D Leonard,
Roquan Smith, and Jessie Bates. It was not all good news this
week for Bas however because Brees’ injury will affect M Thomas who was
ok this week with 14.25 pts but it’s clear we need to expect a slowdown
with Bridgewater in the next few weeks. So far he is WR11 and he
might drop some more in the next few weeks.
The Admirals had a good week but finished 4th despite being only 4.75
pts behind first place FE which was a major bummer. Adm needed
more production from Mayfield on MNF but he underperformed slightly
relative to his weekly projection with 15.75 pts. At RB, Gurley
was fine with 10.5 pts but it’s becoming clear that he is not being
used like a workhorse like he was in the first half of last year.
Ingram had an easy matchup against the Cards but he was far less
impressive than during the opening week, scoring only 6.25 pts this
time around. On that same Ravens’ team it’s actually TE Mark
Andrews who is lighting up the scoreboard, this week he scored 20.5 pts
when the Adm coach benched Olsen which turned out to be the right thing
to do. After 2 weeks, Andrews is the top TE in the PQBFL by a
large margin and even compared to WRs he only trails S Watkins (Ball)
but he is in front of any other WR. On defense Adm got strong
contribution from B Martinez (13 pts), B Baker (14 pts), and the Browns
defense (14.5 pts) but Chandler Jones was a let down with only 2.5 pts
which cost dearly.
The BeaudoinBrothers came up with the short end of the stick in the top
5 this week despite a solid 151.5 pts. The finger can be pointed
to OJ Howard who was a dud to start things off on TNF with a big fat
goose egg. The Bros had a late surge on MNF with 15 pts from
Chubb, 16 pts from LB Schobert, and DL Garrett had a fun night with 3
sacks and 5 QB hits for a total of 19 pts. This trio of Browns
were productive but it was too little too late for the Bros who were
already assured of beating Wax anyway. The Bros coach hesitated
starting A Brown who scored 14 pts on the bench compared to Thielen who
was pedestrian this week again because Cousins can no longer throw the
ball this year and Thielen finished with 8.75 pts. At least the
good news is that TY Hilton continues to perform without A Luck and is
a serviceable WR2; he scored a TD this week again and he’s the 3rd best
WR in the PQBFL so far, so an argument can even be made that he might
end up the season being a low-end WR1 rather than a WR2.
WaxOnWaxOff improved from 105.75 pts in week 1 (8th place) to 120.25
pts (6th place) but if it was at all possible, the result was probably
even worse. Not only Wax was nowhere near the leaders, but QB
Roethlisberger got injured and only scored 2.5 pts and is now out for
the year. That will mean a flurry of injury points but for this
year Wax’s outlook is bleak with Rivers and Brissett as backups and
they are middling at best so far (13th and 14th best QBs). Roeth
being out also hurts Wax because of an overconcentration of Steelers
particularly RB Conner who will be most likely less productive as the
rest of the offense, and he got hurt himself too. As if this was
not enough, Brees being out also means less scoring potential for
Kamara who was not used as efficiently by Bridgewater and only scored 5
pts. With Ty Hill sidelined, backup WR D Westbrook only caught
one short pass for 3 yards and a putrid 1 pt. If a season can be
destroyed in as little as two weeks then Wax 2019 would be the showcase
version of it with the string of bad luck. It is disappointing
but Wax should already be looking to 2020.
The SunshineBoys did not do as well this week but were nonetheless able
to compete with Old and almost beat Wax so they are within reach of 6th
in the standings after 2 weeks which is not bad at all for an expansion
team. The rookie position is going to be problematic for Sun
until either N Harry or J Hurd come back from injuries. Rookie LB
Pratt is not ready for prime time and he was held scoreless. RB
is the other sore spot until M Gordon is traded or signs with the
Chargers. D Freeman is not getting the job done so far with only
5.25 pts this week and he ranks 39th best RB after 2 weeks which is
quite bad considering the 4th round price tag. L Murray is simply
not a starting RB and only scored 1 point this week. Benched RBs
were not significantly better anyway with 2 pts from Ballage and 0.25
pt from J Richard. Sun’s receivers are the reason the team did
not finish in the cellar this week thanks to 22 pts from ODB and 18.75
pts from TE V McDonald. Actually McDonald probably stole some
points away from the other starting SunshineBoys WR JJSS who was
limited to 9 pts. Both of them will suffer from Roethlisberger’s
absence and will make Sun’s life even more difficult than it would have
been.
The Ballers did a lot better than week 1 but it was still not good
enough to beat anybody except OldNo7 this week. Franchise player
Ju Jones was the only starter who produced double digit scoring (24.25
pts) other than Breida who was ok with 11 pts by rushing over 120 yards
in the game. Almost everybody else produced lower than
expectations, led by C Newton who could not beat the Bucs at home and
he finished with only 7.75 pts and no TD; as a result the Panthers’
season is unraveling almost as fast as Wax. At RB C Thompson is
doing his best but his 4.25 pts is not going to cut it even though he
outscored hobbled Mixon affected by an injury as he scored only 3.25
pts on the bench. WR Watkins caught 6 passes this week which was
good but no TD this week because Mahomes can afford to spread the
wealth which means Ballers were left behind with Watkins not reaching
double digits. On defense none of the 4 individual starters could
also reach that 10-pt threshold and neither did the Bears in a so-so
effort in Denver with only 5.5 pts.
OldNo7 had early hopes after the week #1 win but Old crashed down to
earth with last place this week, scoring about half of week #1 with
only 103.25 pts compared to 205.5 pts the week before. It all
started wrong with the coach starting COL RB J Taylor who was on bye
but none of it mattered because backup Dillon only scored 4.5 pts and
Old finished farther than that in last place. Wentz looks less
impressive after week 2 than he did after week 1 because of the flurry
of injuries to his receivers Jeffery, D-Jax and Goedert this
week. McCaffrey was a massive let down with only 4.25 pts this
week as the rest of the Panthers sucked big time. D Hopkins and E
Engram were kept out of the end zone and scored only 7 pts and 8.25 pts
respectively although they are too good to stay at that low level of
production for much longer so it was probably just a fluke. This
week was so bad for OldNo7 that even kicker Gostkowski missed a FG and
two extra points which means he finished with nothing on the PQBFL
scoreboard in a 43-point fest in Miami which is amazingly bad for a
kicker.
